    Introducing Packard

I am a hobbyist woodworker. I have for a long time wanted to make some steel tubing bases for some of my cabinets. I will read along for a while. Maybe ask a question or two.

Then I will buy a welder and dive in.

Welcome! You will find lots of help here, especially after you get started. If you ask about what welder to buy, then you'll get more answers than you can process, best suggestion there is to try to find a supplier that can let you "try" different machines. HARBOR FREIGHT has a new line called VULCAN that seems to be decent, one of the members here has helped with testing and development, they seem to be good machines and offer a 1 year return policy, can't go wrong with that.

    Welcome!

I wish you well on your endeavors! Gearing up and welding your bases probably won’t be a money saving endeavor vs the cost to have them fabricated, however if you primary interest is in learning to weld- you will be quite happy! Welding takes a good deal of fairly costly equipment, and lots of practice. But I as an average Joe am doing pretty well, you can too, especially with the helpful members on this site.
