Spool gun options for the Millermatic 252

I know the spoolmatic 30A is the best spool gun to match up with this welder, but the cheapest I can find it is $1200, which is more than I really want to spend. Are there less expensive options that would work with this welder? Ideally I would like to be below $500. I have already checked ebay and everything there is through the roof expensive (i.e, full retail price). How does the HTP spool gun stack up? It is still out of my price range, but still a fair bit cheaper than the 30A. How hard would it be to adapt a spoolmate 150 to this welder? Are there other generic spool guns I should consider?

Call Miller and ask them, might be easier than you think.

Go with the 30a. It's worth it.

A used 30a will be better then a new 150 gun.

Patience, I've bought a couple used around $500 eBay and Craigslist in addition to good old WW.

There is this that has been around for a long time. I have no experience with it but perhaps a deep search would reveal some worth. I thought about getting one once but didn't:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/25-HTP-repl...-/140635073708

They say it's a direct replacement. Very much like a MK Prince gun, configuration wise, which I have used extensively and like.

Ooopsie! I see you already looked at it. If that price is beyond, then, you're done if you want to be serious. IMO, the little bug-sprayer guns are more or less worthless. Buying on fleabay is hit or miss and a rebuild can get pretty pricey along with the effort to figure out what a problem can be. Been there, done that. Most people on fleabay these days over value and usually haven't even turned a gun on. A 30A is pretty bomb-proof but as said, if there is a problem it can be time consuming to figure out AND expensive. As I speak, I now have three 30A's that have various problems and am slowly working through that.

I see an XR 15a push pull gun that can be had for under $500. What are the pros and cons of one of those over a spool gun? I get that with a spool gun I can leave it connected all the time, and there is that flexibility. is a push pull gun harder to use?

Bigger spools of wire. It's just a 15a with the spool holder removed and a MIG cable in its place. The box handles the syncing of the push and pull motors. You don't gain the access that u get with an signal to gun.
