I've been known to dump a bunch of simple green in when I wash shop rags. Seems to do a decent job.

Wet stains with naphtha, blow the naphtha out of the fabric with compressed air, repeat if necessary. Then run it through what ever wash you like.

I use a spritz of "Oil Eater" on the stain and some oxiclean in the wash, works pretty well.

You’ve pretty much described dry cleaning.

Just put it in the "work shirts" pile now and forget about the oil.

If it was just an oil stain I would agree, but diesel gets into your skin and remains an irritant for some people. Clean it or toss it in the rag bag.

Hmmm.... re-reading that.... not sure if he`s referring to oil from a diesel engine or diesel fuel, I guess since it's used, it's the oil. Either way the cleaning processes will be the same.

Try ½ & ½ mix of ammonia and dishwashing soap, wet the stain & pour it on, quite a bit, & squish it in. Let it sit a day or two & wash.

I agree, at work I use to spray the spots with brake clean, then take a shop towel and suck up as much of the oil and brake clean as possible. You will still have a stain which is allot lighter but won't come out.
Black oil & black grease on clothing = work clothes.

If you want to get the oil stains out of the shirt, get some scissors and cut all the way around them. The stains are gone for good. Guaranteed you will not develop another stain in the same place on THAT shirt ever again.

Dawn dish soap will get the oil out but you should take it to the launder mat so you don't mess up your home washing machine.

If it was a one time deal i would toss it but i work on diesels every day. This is the worst case i have had. VPT its red and black now. I covered it in floor dry then let it set in Dawn then washed it in borox and detergent. That didnt phase it.I may try the simple green or something like that next. Its more about finding out what will work than saveing a shirt but i did like the shirt.

O'l Doog. That's why I always called in a uniform outfitter. Not always at a shop I was at but the auto guys a block or three had a once a week'er so I'd sign on with him and make sure my crap was there on pickup day. I even designed my logo.

If your working on diesels every day you need a second line of clothes for workin. You know, stuff you can get dirty and not get all woman about. Or its time to check out some hazmat suits.

ERA laundry soap works so good it breaks down the fibers too so I only use it for stains or very dirty items.

If the stain is in a single spot, thoroughly saturate it with hand cleaner and let it sit for 30 - 60 minutes before washing.

If the stain is more widespread, I’ll mix up some simple green and hot water in a small tub and soak the clothes in it for a day or so before washing. Works great.
