My favorite YouTube welding instructor is Jody Collier of Welding Tips & Tricks. His favorite says is, “use enough amperage so the rod won’t stick with a short arc, then hold a short arc”.

Those 4 holes were for handle bars when the went to a different style undercarriage. This was after the stopped the tricycle like you have. My 1989 came with the new style. I put it on a tricycle! Here is what they looked like

I used one at work many years ago. The only issue was, once you set your heat , we had a wood wedge that you stuck in between the dial and the cover. The thing would vibrate and shake it would change the heat.

There are tension adjustments that will hold the rotor and stop the movement. Usually they are tight from being on the same setting for years.

Re: Check out my new scooter

You guys are making me drool again. Just don't see these coming up for sale north of the border. Anyone know of an AC/DC 250 for sale in North Dakota? I know these things aren't light so shipping them any distance is going to be a pricey option.

Yes. There are 2 spring loaded adjustments that tighten a brake band. These are on both ends of the rotor. I had an old Lincoln service tech tell me don’t mess with them! If you get them to loose when you strike an arc the adjustment wheel will spin like an airplane propeller. So I never touch them. If one was loose I guess it would be ok to snug them up. Never saw one to loose

mine seems perfect, its nice and easy to adjust but firm enough to seem to stay put, one thing i noticed on these is that the 90% of the adjustment wheels have a band of corrosion around them that starts near the center bolt hole and fans out toward the knob/handle i wonder why that is, it seems very common maybe from the heat from welding the brace on the back

My guess it's the spot welded reinforcing from the hub to the knob.

Here’s the cable system I’ve come up with for my round top that’s on a tricycle. 2” square tubing and some cross pieces with braces and radius cuts on some flat steel

60’ on electrode 40’ on ground. 1/0 cable. Tweco female connectors on front panel so it’s easy to take them off for storage and transport

Even the square tops are rare as hen's teeth around here. At farm auction they will bring $700 to $1400.
