Lincoln Viking constantly coming loose for flip up/down?

Anyone else have this issue/know how to resolve it?

Its rather annoying when you're doing a lot of small parts and constantly flipping your hood up and down for fitup. After a few up/downs the headband to the hood portion already gets very loose to where it doesn't stay up if i dont tighten it. Not the biggest inconvenience in the world to tighten it quick but its pretty annoying after a while.

Maybe add something to the threads on the screw to snug them up a bit. Seems like I am always fiddling with all of my hoods. They are fine for the first year, then always coming loose after that.

I have the same thing with my Viking.

Very comfortable headgear but after a while, when I flip it down, it strikes my chest rather sharply. Typically I just give the left knob a bit of a twist and it'll be good for a few days.

Exactly my issue... other than the striking the chest part.

The real kick in the nuts is my harbor freight one I keep for guests works fine

Then ya gotta ask yourself if it really matters...…………..given global warming, famine, and other nasty things.

Right hand thread...……….left hand thread...…..think about it...…….and think about both nuts being right hand thread.

Your local weld supply should have replacement washers and such, if it just needs a tuneup. The complete replacement headgear is less than thirty bucks.

SaskWelder, have you reset your tilt control, it's on the right side, inside end of the pivot bolt.

My Miller Digital Elite that I had for 5 years was the same way. Miller redesigned the headgear for the Infinity, although I'm not a fan of the back piece. I actually modified a Washington Alloy hood to fit the new Miller headgear in after my Elite crapped out on me.

Son of a...after narrowing it down to a Lincoln 3350 or a Miller Infinity, I picked the Lincoln. I've only used it for 15 min or so, but SOB...it won't stay up. Why they don't put LH threads on one side, I don't know. I'll try some more tweaking I guess.

I do like the color and clarity through the lens.

    Hey guys,

Just wanted to post an update maybe it helps someone else.

I got so fed up I called lincoln, who has fantastic customer service no robot voices at all...

Anyway theyre sending me new headgear no charge. Didn't even have to argue, they offered.

Things may not be 100% made in america anymore but customer service is still worth the extra money!
