...not even joking! I tried it to see if it was possible!
AND you can even adjust the AC frequency/balance as well!

There really are deals out there on solid transformer machines if you watch and wait a bit. I picked up this clean Miller Thunderbolt XL 300/200 today for only $200.

They might! I didn't even need it, but couldn't pass it up....way too good of a deal. I ran some beads with it last night and was happy with the results.

Nice score G-Man. I had a Hobart that kinda looked like that (230A AC/160A DC I think) and it did a nice job.

That would have been a Stickmate LX 235/160, which is actually the twin of the Thunderbolt LX 225/150 (no idea why they list slightly different amp numbers, but they're the same welder with different paint/stickers). This one is the next size up at 200A DC and about 30lbs heavier. I have one of each and they both weld really nicely. I've got a Dialarc 250 as my primary stick machine, so I'm going to sell both of the Thunderbolts, but I could probably get by forever with just the larger of the two Thunderbolts since I'm not welding battleship parts...at least not regularly

Yes, that tbolt will run 5/32 lohy. There isn't much past that. A Dial may do it a little longer but it wouldn't ally to many. I have a Synch,,, still use my dc buzzer. I don't need it but would have scored it for 200 too. I have ran my linc wayyyyy past its duty, whole welders handful of 1/8 lohy at a time even on hot days but that would take all the worry out of it. A guy could burn as many as he wanted without paying any attn to it. Could run some 5/32 without problem. They rate them at 104 ambient.
