    Sammy Treats Himself

All these years whacking on slag with a cheep azz soft hammer.

Well Was at the steel store (pickin' up some steel) When the Atlas Tomahawk WH-20 literally jumped off the rack into my hands IT WAS LUV AT FIRST SIGHT

Got home, jumped outta the pickup, and almost fell over the water hose...………………..I'M LOOKIN FOR SOME SLAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The pup ran behind me to see what all the excitement was about. Found some slag on the gin pole that hadn't been chipped, because it was inside a sharp angle...………..light tap with the pointy end, and it literally disintegrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (the slag, not the hammer).

BABY......WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

When K'kins gets home, I'm gonna let her chip some slag...……….not fair for me to have all the fun

ever since the boss at the fab shop gave me a real chipping hammer (atlas tommyhawk) and threw my spring loaded hammer over the fence it's all i used. i prefer the cross chisel for removing torch cutting slag.

Don't! Hide it from her. K'kins will only get jealous and either divorce you or throw the chipping hammer in the fire pit.

the longer wooden handle gives a much better swing to it than the spring type hammer imo. the point will peen over and dull before too long but a superior hammer in every way.

These guys have pretty good prices on US made stuff. They also stock Empire measuring/layout stuff. Empire seems to make the only squares that are truly square.

Wow! I can feel it in my hand! The Radnor clunkers I have, some wooden handled, some wire, spin as i use them. I HATE junk tools!

I also prefer the cross chisel. Don't remember the make but I've had the same style for a lot of years and have had to resharpen both ends a few times and replace the handle. Overall it's served me well!!

I'd try the tommyhawk if I didn't already have the Estwing. I know with the Estwing I'll never have to worry about the hammer head coming loose from the handle but I'm not sure if the rubber on the handle will ever degrade or melt from any accidental chemical contacts.

^^ There's a lot of truth in what g240z says sammy..... I mean they put that slag on the rod for a reason you know.... it ain't just there to protect the rod!!!! and make it look pretty it is actually to be part of the molecular metal bonding process removing it is bad juju....

I have the same one. Absolutely love it. Especially that soft rubber handle on my tender fingers!

I'm a little tiny bit jealous.

My bro has an Estwing hammer obsession. I think he might buy himself one of those if i showed him it existed

    Re: Sammy Treats Himself

I have no idea how many chipping hammers I've used up over my welding career but it was a bunch. The Estwing is certainly one of the best but the absolutely favorite and longest lasting one for me has been the Stanley. There is one hanging in my garage and as little as I use it now I will never wear it out.

Man, you know how to live it up. I have an Eastwing brick hammer that is excellent. Need to look for the slag version.
