Journeyman electrician looking to get into welding for fun...maybe money.

    Hey everyone

Been in the trades about 12 years now. Have a nice garage setup and looking to dabble my toes into the welding world. Big auto background before I got into electrical.

Bottom line looking at a multiprocess welder (miller multimatic 220 is what I'm eyeing but open to suggestions).

Also need to get some basis tools and brands of said tools acquired so I don't end up with junk and don't over pay for junk.. Ears all open to the experts.

Oh NO! Not another electrician!!!! Just kidding we can always use another one! We get lots of electrical questions and the threads tend to get pretty long and go on for months, if not years! Licensed sparky myself here almost 30 years. Welcome to the forum, we all like to talk about tools. I have three blue machines myself. Since I am just a hobby welder though I'll let the others more knowledgeable help with your choices.

Welcome from NE GA , stay with the big 3 and you will not have any regrets ! Multi- process machines are like the EL CAMINO it will not haul like a truck or drive like a car , but it will do a little of both . There is nothing like having dedicated machines PERIOD ! With that said i do understand some people have room and budget restraints that force there hand , but if you going to weld for more than 1 hour continuous you will soon see the virtues of a dedicated machine . Whatever you do stay away from the ching chong stuff , it is total crap ! HOBART , MILLER ,AND LINCOLN BUILT AMERICA . Cant go wrong with made in the USA !
