Good job. Lots of washers, nuts and spacers in that system. They really improved them around 1980 with the new style twist lock insulators.

Thanks , I was thinking of getting the complete stud ***'y then I found out the cost. So I just ordered the bushings pretty cheap $20 can. for the both parts.

Yep, I agree. If the parts are there and assembled in the right order no need to replace. I think those plastic insulators get brittle over time from heat and people jerking around on the leads. Your good to go now

While I was changing the output bushings , I blew out the whole machine relubed everything and then I came across this dangling wire not hooked up to anything. I believe that's the suppressor circuit? I looks like one wire is bolted to the negative side (I 'm guessing its the plate in the back because of the black line on it) does the other wire go to the front plate (positive?)

I believe so. With the suppressor out of the circuit the open circuit voltage will be to high. Up around 100 which creates a shock hazard. It will weld fine

Oh ok , looks like someone's been in there before, I doubt that Lincoln would leave that unbolted from the factory. Now my other question is why is it like that? I haven't done any real welding with this machine yet, nothing looks burnt or anything. There is no literature inside the case as to identify the code or year of the welder. Looking at those old style diodes I'd say its a 70's machine. After a bit more research my machine falls in between 4880 to 7100. Getting closer lol. Can anyone confirm with Sparkie about the suppressor circuit.

This is my 1989 with the newer plug type rectifier diodes. They started these in the 80’s. Your machine still uses selenium button type rectifier they used for years. Did you check the wiring schematic on the suppressor?

According to a wiring diagram it looks like the leads go to each output leg of the rectifier.

I’ve only changed one, I was looking for a picture. That seems right. Check your DC open circuit voltage with it hooked up and not hooked up to see the difference. Should be about 20 volts
