    milllermatic 185 no welding output s/n KJ12400

Okay where are the repair guys at? This machine will give me a little spark once and thats it. cleaned up the grround cable with a new lug, replaced the contact tip, no change. checked the circuit breakes and input voltage is good. can anybody tell me what I am supposed to have voltake wise coming out of the T1 at the various taps?

does it feed wire when you pull the trigger?

voltage out of the taps will be between 17 and 34 volts with no load, per the manual. I doubt if that is your problem. If you are sure you have a good work piece (aka ground) connection and a a good contact tip, and all the polarity connectors are clean and tight, and you are sure the welding circuit isn't interrupted somewhere, then my guess is it is a blown diode, or a problem in the diode assembly.

Well, I only had 13-15 v at the taps. I do have a clean 120v on each line of the input. so is there something else that could cause it besides the T1 being bad

As Louie suggested, it sounds like a diode problem in the rectifier assembly. If you're not familiar, that's the part the cooling fan mounts to. It has four diodes and if one of them fails you'll get partial voltage as you've described. I'm far from an expert, but I think your machine will have two forward-biased diodes, and two reverse-biased diodes.

Do you have a multimeter? Fluke has a good article on how to test diodes....the best way is a multimeter with diode test function.

Thank you gentlemen, yes it was a diode. Thank you both very much for the help. LWS is trying to track one down for me now. Failing that they're on amazon for $37. G-ManBart what part of the detroit area are you from? I'm in Pontiac and I work in Harrison twp.

Glad you got it sorted out....should be an easy fix.

I work right downtown, but live about 15 minutes west of the DTW airport.

And you lived to tell the tale! Actually, the true inner part of Detroit has made quite a bit of a comeback in the past five years or so...nothing like it used to be (thank God!).
