My Jeep had a 5 year Walmart sealed lead acid battery which lasted 7 years. They don't make them anymore, now they are FLA with caps, 3 year. I wanted a non-spillable AGM, O'reilly Superstart AGMs are made by East Penn but they are $259 which is about double what I want to pay for a battery. Then I came across their Superstart AGM group 34 Marine battery. Identical specs to their group 34 non-marine AGM and it's not a deep cycle, it's a starting battery. They say "marine use to run extra loads" but that's because it has top posts and top studs which works great on a Jeep for all my added loads like air compressor, lights etc. It only comes with a 1 year warranty no doubt because of the neglect the average marine battery sees when off season, but the specs are exactly the same, word for word, and the cost is $90 less at $169. Then I see a 20% off but it only works for online orders with home delivery! So I order it online, they ship it to my door along with a return slip to bring my old FLA to any Oreillys for my core charge and I only pay $136 (plus tax). (The equivalent Walmart group 34 FLA is $150).

So my point is whenever you don't need a part right away look to ordering it online and save a chunk. My guess is they're trying to shift as much online as possible to reduce employee costs which in the long run probably isn't good but what are you gonna do? Whenever I am looking to order anything I just Google first to see if there's a coupon code and there usually is.

I guess I'm fortunate, my local NAPA gives me the same discount as their employees partially due to the fact that I've worked there a time or two to help them out and our youngest daughter baby sitting a grandson. My last battery for my truck was about $150.00, well over $100.00 under list price.

NAPA carries East Penn/Deka as well but no discount for me.

I like and prefer Napa, but the local Napa closed down about 6 months ago. I have an O'Reilly's Auto about a mile up the road, and it is utterly amazing how fast they can get product to the store. You can get stuff overnight. Sometimes I've ordered around 8:00-9:00pm and it arrives at 7:30am the next morning.

They don't always have the product I like, and I bought a clutch from Summit Racing yesterday. They will usually take about 4 days.

There's a Napa in Kelseyville, and bought a battery for a forklift from them...wasn't cheap, but they have good service per the battery dates.

I've bought a few things from them already, but it's good to have a Napa close. They can get Beck/Arnley which is basically OEM parts.

I need to order vintage parts from specialty vendors, like Jim Carter or The Filling Station, Chevs of the 40s, et al...

I've purchased a number of Deka batteries when my local Napa was here, and they also sell Optima.

I buy automotive batteries at the salvage yard, your choice 25$, 60 day warranty from them. There is usually naps or O'Reilly's batteries on the shelf so I get those. I have an excellent working relationship with either one so if it craps out they warranty it. As for new batteries group 31 stud mount ( which are much larger than automotive batteries) are way cheaper, about 80$ my cost. I've converted quite a few vehicles to use that battery if space allows.

Personally I think those suck because it's more connection points for corrosion. A lot of the batteries now are both top and side post which is good if your going into a vehicle with questionable lifespan. I've junked more than 1 vehicle where I salvaged the battery and or tires for another. I've always had GM so the side post batteries never bothered me.
