OH JOY! As I've mentioned in another post in this section, I got my truck running at the beginning of last week, with a rebuilt motor. 1989 Toyota 4x4 with the 3vze engine (3.0 V6). It was running fairly well, but I wasn't totally happy, so I did some digging. Yesterday, I ran a compression test on a cold engine. Supposed to be 171 max, and I got 160 to 170 on all holes, except for one, which was 90 psi. SUMBISH! I pulled the valve cover, and checked valve clearance...... no problem there. I don't have a leak down tester, so I rigged something up to pressurize the bad cylinder at TDC. I opened the throttle plate, and heard nothing. Next, I listened for air coming out of the crank case, and did hear some noise. I repeated this test on the good adjacent cylinder, and both audible tests netted the same results. Next, I installed the ghetto-rigged tester back into the bad cylinder, pressurized it again, and noticed the coolant level rising in the radiator. I then pressurized the good cylinder, and the coolant level did not rise. I'm certain I've got a blown head gasket. No oil / coolant mixing. What are you thoughts? Thanks for your time.
