Ground rods

Well 'save you from a fault' is a pretty vague statement. Lots of different faults may occur over a period of time. Bottom a grounding electrode as part of a proper system plays many roles and does much more good than zero ground rods. If any one believes a properly placed ground rod serves no purpose then simply take the dayem thing loose and see how that works.

Ok, where does the electricity go, what pulls it in to the earth?
Where does that 'pulls it to the earth' come from ?

Yes most of the time local earth is a very poor conductor, however there may be times when it is the only conductor. Wiggle your toes into the mud and grab a 120 volt hot lead. That very poor conductor will conduct enough to make you wish you hadn't done that.

Where is this going anyway? Just pseudo trick questions here. :)

I was joking because it seemed like you were saying electrons can feel and have a mind of their own. I never heard an explanation like yours saying the electrons felt like going to holes in valence bands except when dealing with semiconductors like Germanium and Silicon. In fact , it was a lot like a semiconductor approximation class I took years ago but Lorentz was a totally different class.
I know when electrons 'feel' pizzed they bite. Piss off enough of them and you get bit bad. :)
