One problem with used motor oil is that it can contain the metals (lead, tin, antimony, cadmium, zinc) that comprise and are worn off engine bearing inserts. That makes the fumes toxic so requires some consideration when using it. In states like caliFornication, used oil is also classified as a Hazardous Material [shouldn't Demoncrats also be?], at least in larger quantities.

I've heard that used oil burners such as from furnaces, are (or used to be) relatively cheap, at least in the East; I am referring to the type shown here:

They do require motor oil to be filtered well and probably diluted with diesel, paint thinner or heating oil, at least to start the flame with. I built a small furnace using one, and it quickly gets hot enough to melt cast iron.
