I weld a lot of surgical stuff and if there is any contamination of the stainless either through a wire brush or gas mix it will rust almost immediately... I can't even imagine with straight steel filler. That being said, if the environment isn't that harsh you might not ever see it happen

Yes - it's a pretty harsh cleaning - sterilization cycle
