Sounds like some sort of grounding issue to me, but I could be wrong. Sounds like the circuit is not completing to allow the spark to ensue. Good luck with it. By all means, warranty service before kicking the thing!

My Miller Multimatic 215 went kaput about 8 months after I bought it new.. I took it a Miller dealer in town, they sent it to their main service center here in Virginia, and had to keep it 3 weeks, because they had to order a new main board, and then after they still had issues, they ordered a new wind tunnel. Basically rebuilt the entire insides with new parts, and the thing works beautifully. Didn’t cost me a penney, other than taking the unit in to the Arc-3 store. I purchased it from Cyberweld online, but Miller took good care of me.

My point is this: Maybe the warranty work will go just fine, so give things a chance.
