OK this is how I replace bent rods with new rod material..
This will be picture heavy so bear with me...
Bent Rod with replacement rod..
Don't need to look too closely..
You can see the bend in the rod..2.500 dia...

The other end..2.250-12 TPI...

FIRST THING YOU DO IS MEASURE THE LENGTH!!!!!!
33-7/8" long...

Now a trip to the saw is in order....

What's left..
Now notice...
There is NO weld on the rod to the eye..
This shaft was made from a one piece forging...
Turned..
Polished..
Plated.
