Pipe Welding. MIG, TIG, or Stick most used?

pretty much everybody in the refineries is doing TIG/Stick on carbon steel pipe these days. You hardly ever see a 6010 on a job anymore, unless it's a pipeline.
In a fab shop they will do MIG root/DualShield out on a rollout positioner. TIG roots on position welds

No 6010 in the last 3 refineries I worked in.

Chevron - Pascagoula, MS
Conoco Phillips - Borger, TX
Shell - Anacortes, WA.

you need a better fit to use 6010, bad gaps and hi-lo are easier to cover up with TIG .I think they like it considering the sad state of affairs regarding the quality of the pipefitters you get nowadays.
