welding without ground

had a job at the local hospital doing structural a couple weeks back.

in contract, they would supply and furnish power to the maxstar 200 so i showed up with some high quality hubbel 50a 250v plugs and handed the female over to them. their electrician wired the hot side and i wired the welder.

"hope your good for 3ph 480!" and the electrician drops my 50a, 250v, 4-wire (thank goodness) plug down a hole cored between him and the basement where im working.

i dont mind that the plug is not rated for 480, no biggie, he's a real electrician so its fine. fast-forward to the end of the job and i want my plug back. i go upstairs with a different electrician, see an so cord with a wire-nutted extension, going to my plug and as its disassembled, i notice the GREEN wire is cut back and making ZERO contact with the plug.

i lived folks. . . . . .threw a little fit over it, but i lived. amazing how i would rather work with a few strangers on the internet than the "professionals" at a hospital. more people need to visit this forum
I think the difference is here many of us do not know the correct technique or process but we WANT to learn how to do it RIGHT, Sometimes it seems the so called professionals simply dont care and do a little as necessary to collect a paycheck
