Nice clean design for the security and the entire bathroom.

I thought of making this a swinging unit which I think it actually should have been by code but all the others in the basement were. I risked it and got out alive in the end.

Without a casing, just the mirror edges, it looks like a portal in a sci fi movie rather than a window.

she came in through the bathroom window, protected by a silver spoon....
i had the meaning of them lyrics wrong for yrs.
that looks so nice, its looks like it was meant to be. but i'd like to be able to use it to exit if need be though.

Borrow all you like. Ideas are to be shared. I think I eventually put a simple casing on the surface around that window just to cover the raw edges.

I might have to "steal" the mirrored window well idea,,
we have three basement windows,, with about 12" deep window wells.
That mirror idea would "light" up the rooms!!

The bamboo really goes well with the rest of the design though.

Hey, that's a great idea. I never thought of that. Oh well, 15 years too late!

Looks good. If you ever do it again and want the rings on the bamboo, it is easy to. You heat around it and hammer on the end. It will pooch out a ring.

    Bamboo security bars

I don't like most security bars and I wanted to do something different when I was renovating a basement bathroom in our last house. It was a Japanese themed room so I had a pal help me with his gear. We cut some leaves with his plasma cutter and used a couple of different sized rods. I was happy with the results. A couple of squirts with the left over rattle can of Mazda pickup touch up paint and I was done. I lined the deep window well with mirror to bring even more light into the room. It worked well. I also left the stringers of the stubby stairwell open and backed them with sand blasted glass to provide some more light from the back porch door that had full glass in it. I miss that bathroom big time!
