Thanks Caveman. I'm thankful that for now, the stuff I work with doesn't have a hard deadline, so I can walk away when my back says 'uncle'.

Thanks. Have learned lots lurking in the shadows...maybe some day I will have something useful to add to the conversation.

Welcome aboard. My son is a machinist and also a pretty good welder. He lives right by the city of Fairfax, works out by Dulles airport. I lived in McLean for a number of years when I was young.

Greetings from Fairfax County, VA, USA

Have been reading through WW for a while now; maybe some day I'll have something useful to add to the conversation...but for now, wanted to introduce myself and say thanks for all I've learned here.

As for me, I struck my first arc a couple of years ago (shortly before the WW crash). Projects to date are mostly small projects around the house...nothing fancy. Have watched countless YouTube hours of Jody (welding tips and tricks), Bob Moffatt (weld dot com) -- very helpful in getting through the first few (ahem) attempts to join two pieces of steel together. Trying to spend time each week running beads on practice coupons to get started...very much a beginner...but even slow progress is progress . I've got 30 years of experience as an Electro-mechanical Engineer (more mechanical than electrical) designing, installing and trouble-shooting prototype systems into/onto military platforms. Thankful to have exceptional fabricators where I work to help explain different fabrication approaches and use their experience and recommendations for improving my (sometimes hair-brained ) ideas.

    Regards,
    Dave 66
