Going to try these. Right of the Bat it has a small extremely weak spring. I'm going to get the Japanese ones also. They have them on the way to work at the welding shopAttachment 1729511Attachment 1729512

As mentioned most made for copper will indent the cutting edge and not cut cleanly after that with any use on steel. Only way to know for certain is try I would think but be prepared to damage them. Once they mess up they may also leave burr on wire end.

I have a pair of Channel lock welding pliers I got before the Japanese made Welpers and I have the opposite experience with them. They don’t cut the wire off all the way and the wire just hangs and stays connected. Bad cutters IMO.

I’d go with Welpers as they are cheap enough and you get a great cut on the wire every time. My 2 cents. Heck get two pairs so you always have a back up in cas they walk away or get momentarily misplaced.

If they say "Don't cut steel", don't try it those will have a sharper, thinner cutting edge. Steel will just put huge nicks in the blades. I've had idiots use my copper cable cutters on steel wire and totally ruin them.

Those Snap-on pipe wrenches look suspiciously like Rigid
pipe wrenches. At least it’s a good pipe wrench. The “Snap-
on” drop light I got from Ace hardware (piece of crap)
broke after a few weeks. I don’t know if it was unauthorized
use of the brand name and logo or not but when I asked
Snappy to warranty it he laughed at me.

Some of the "Brand Name" tools that fall outside the Brand"s line of expertise don't have much to do with the Brand. They license the use of their name to other manufacturers as a sales gimmick for the ones actually making the product.

I got a Starrett special anniversary edition 25 ft tape measure & belt buckle about 25 or 30 years ago, the tape was really nothing special, almost an exact copy of the chrome cased Stanley.

Sure, just about any pair of combination needle nose work great. They have cutting, two size gripping, and the needles for clearing out the nozzle. I got my first pair of welders helpers as a gift this year from my son. I have been using a half broken set of needle nose pliers for the last 25 years.

I have a lot of knipex tools and I have never seen a dedicated welding pair of pliers from knipex. What I can tell you is that their larger needle nose pliers worked great as welper pliers. You can cut Mig wire, clean the nozzles, and remove tips.
