I don't care that you disassemble your entire vehicle to put air in the tires, and create 10-page "tutorials" on doing so. If that's how you want to spend your time, have at it. I don't care that you act like this is farming, or that you are dead set on proving that you're half again smarter than everyone else put together. I don't care that your health is a disaster by your own choosing, and that you prefer to live sick than to show up to appointments on time. I wish you good health regardless.

Just don't mention feeding or caring for your cows. If that mattered, you'd have paid the freight to get that hay baled rather than going on a ten day tangent of baler/rake/tire repair, at the end of which there is still no running equipment. If caring for them mattered, they wouldn't be dying in mudholes.

    Keep on posting sammm,
until they give you money/time/help their opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Your posts are always interesting and have good welding and fabricating tips/points/ideas in them. (The whole point of this forum).

Truth is 90% of the People on this forum don't contribute 1/10th actual posts, just comments and opinions (guilty of this myself).

Some people make everyone else's threads about their own feelings.
People that claim to care the least often do this the most - everyone knows the type.
They will passionately and emotionally criticize something they "couldn't care less about, doesn't affect my amazing life" every chance they get.
    Tells you something.

Gee Samm, you're what this forum is about. Not everybody agrees. I'm rooting for you! I'm interested in your fixes & wish you had fewer of them to deal with. I wish you'd go fix your health problems right now, reinvent the wheel when you're better.

When you asked the question I almost replied with "because it's fun watching Sam hung-up in his long underwear". What Sam lacks, kins more than makes up for. Not since Gone With The Wind have I heard such touching love story than kins taking her six shooter and going off leaving Sam alone. To hear Sam tell it he was missing the pistol but we know what the long face and going off his feed was about.

    Re: End of the Season

There's a lot of variety in what happens in agriculture. I've pretty much seen it all. I have neighbors with fleets of brand new equipment ( sometimes leased, sometimes owned) farming 10,000 plus acre farms that rarely fix a machine. I also have neighbors that are starting with nothing living off ditch hay and part time jobs. Others are on the later end of the careers and keep patching up older equipment when "they get around to it" because they are in their 70's or 80's and just don't run around like they used to. At 64 I'm somewhere in the middle. Most of my equipment is over 30 yrs old and in need of constant attention so some of it gets maintained on time, some gets fixed in a hurry at midnight, and some are "on the list". My point is, with the variety of operations, there is no one "correct answer". Everyone walks to the beat of their own drum, and there's a lot of drummers in the crowd...

    Re: End of the Season

I should add to my earlier post that my "repairs" to farm equipment were nowhere near the quality level of samm or 12v's [emoji3525]

No, you don't get it, my customers don't have time to let their crops rot in the field, If I can make it work right there and then they are happy and grateful. You ever do something that hasn't required weeks of overthinking to just get the job done? We aren't hobby farmers here with 50 year old equipment. Quarter million dollar machine goes down with 15 trucks and drivers waiting including a crew at the unloading end... You do what you have to do to get it going then spend half the night putting it right when they shut down. F######g around for days isn't acceptable. But it works for you I guess.

    Re: End of the Season

I'm usually surprised, but not so much so........social media being what it is.

I figured the forum was about metal working. Dealing with a material that's unforgiving.

Always figured it was a good thing to put up stuff that dealt with making unworkable things...workable. Massaging the metal, not beating it into submission. In other words.....making it a lasting repair. A monkey can beat a skillet into a pot........but, where's the education in that??

I thought this thread brought a lot to the table. Repair, and soon-to-be fabrication to overcome design deficiencies. Little bit of something for everybody.

The rake is complete. Only thing to do is to install some lock collars that control the way it articulates over rough ground.

The precision of the rebuild is friggin' FANTASTIC. I'm patting myself on the back. All the geometry is spot on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The angles, alignment, and elevations, are right on the money. To take this from a mangled piece of pipe, to 'factory', is absolutely gratifying.

If Bob still reads this stuff........THANKS!! Encouragement on the pipe stands was very nice. They're a bit non conforming, but work on just about any type of ground, and I'd estimate...are around at least 1 ton rating. Handiest thing I've "cobbled" together in a long time. They may not fit the mold, but they're light years beyond what's available over the counter. Couldn't believe I lived without them for all these years.

For the "just bang on it, and get it done" crowd. It's the usual................don't got time for y'all. Do it right, or don't bother doing it.

Probably get started on the mods tomorrow. Would have gotten a good start today, but the rain was intermittent, not worth a damn......just stirred up the dust......but it prevented any welding.

Clear this thing out of the shop, then need to drop the front end on the Oliver.

Baler repair, high clearance shoes for the Krone,...............we're still on schedule for a early Fall cutting, or late Summer. More time it has a chance for a meaningful rain, the better chance it'll be worth cutting. Hay is starting to run $100/bale at the high.....about $70 at the low.

not for customers but for myself. just about every "repair " was like that.

invariably there were employees and or trucks waiting, rain or other inclement weather, and numbered days.
