Re: Dayton 295amp AC buzz box HELP! Have you checked for voltage at switch ?(as Hobbytime suggested). I would suspect plug ,cord or wiring of them.

Figured the resistance might be high because of the spliced chord if anything. When I had it apart I checked all the connections and they looked good. I know that these units are very unlikely to go bad. Does anyone have one of these that wouldn mind getting me some readings with a multimeter? This way I can go through and check components 1 by 1?

Checked with it off and no continuity so switch is good.
Re: Dayton 295amp AC buzz box HELP! open it up and see if you get 220 on both sides of the switch when turned on..there may be a reason it was free.....could be a broken or burned wire, or some critter got inside and started chewing away...

Re: Dayton 295amp AC buzz box HELP! Power is at the recepticle and it's wired up right. I can check for continuity across the live blades when I get to my shop.
Re: Dayton 295amp AC buzz box HELP! Do you know that you have 220v at the receptacle and that the receptacle is wired correctly ? Have you checked for continuity across the two blades of the welder’s plug with the power switch in the on position?
Dayton 295amp AC buzz box HELP! Hi all, new to the forum. Just got a really good Christmas deal off of Facebook. Picked up a Dayton 295 amp ac arc welder with the hi/low plugs on the left side. It has the lever arm you move to adjust it and a locking mechanism that holds it. Guy gave me a ton of rods to go with it. 6011, 6013, 7018 etc etc. Got the cables and all of this for free. So I brought it home and today I took it out to the shop to test it out. I have it plugged to a 220v. When I flip the switch nothing happens, fan doesn come on and I can't strike an arc. I blew everything out with my air compressor. Checked the wiring and everything is snug. Checked continuity along power chord and good. Jus not sure where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated, I fix and ride alot of sleds and bikes and I'm mechanically inclined. Happy New year's btw!
