Have you checked for voltage at switch ?(as Hobbytime suggested).
I would suspect plug ,cord or wiring of them.

transformer would hum.Do you have a multimeter?
My next step would be to check for power at the switch.
Or measure resistance across plug with switch on.
(Should be very low, probably less than 10Ω)
So resistance across the plug was around 18-20 ohms with switch on. No reading with plug off. It's got a dryer style 3 prong spliced onto the original chord it looks. I took I apart, rejoined all he connections along with Makin sure ground was wired up right. No him or fan kicking on. Figured the resistance might be high because of the spliced chord if anything. When I had it apart I checked all the connections and they looked good. I know that these units are very unlikely to go bad.

Does anyone have one of these that wouldn mind getting me some readings with a multimeter? This way I can go through and check components 1 by 1?

Question do these make any noise when they turn on? Or do they only make noise when you strike an arc?
And should my fan kick on when the switch is turned on?
depends if the fan is on a thermostat or kicks on all the time...you should hear some sort of humming when turned on, not loud but some low level humming.... are you sure the switch is working??? check with a volt meter to make sure the 220 is going through the switch..
heres a parts break down for it..

Have you checked for continuity across the two blades of the
welder’s plug with the power switch in the on position?
Checked continuity on live prongs and i have continuity. Checked with it off and no continuity so switch is good.

I know these welders were all made by century if I correct. If anyone has a manual they wouldn mind sharing I'd be mighty appreciative.

Power is at the recepticle and it's wired up right. I can check for continuity across the live blades when I get to my shop.

Dayton 295amp AC buzz box HELP!

Hi all, new to the forum. Just got a really good Christmas deal off of Facebook.
Picked up a Dayton 295 amp ac arc welder with the hi/low plugs on the left side. It has the lever arm you move to adjust it and a locking mechanism that holds it. Guy gave me a ton of rods to go with it. 6011, 6013, 7018 etc etc. Got the cables and all of this for free. So I brought it home and today I took it out to the shop to test it out.
I have it plugged to a 220v. When I flip the switch nothing happens, fan doesn come on and I can't strike an arc. I blew everything out with my air compressor. Checked the wiring and everything is snug. Checked continuity along power chord and good. Jus not sure where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated, I fix and ride alot of sleds and bikes and I'm mechanically inclined. Happy New year's btw!
