Shooter, I just saw this in my Pinterest feeds and thought you might be interested if not to make then to enjoy the creativity of the fire pit and theme behind it. It reminds me of the characters in a video game the kids use to play called “Crash Bandicoot”

I'm pretty sure I'm doing a moai next. But much later. For now, I only have 1 giant project in me per year! Time for smaller Xmas presents and other yard stuff to sell.

I want to get a bit of an inventory, then take a stab at a local weekend art fair.

This just caught my eye on Netflix. It's a Keanu Reeves movie set in LA....

OK! Thanks a million. I have shown your totem to several folks and they were amazed and also curious what the totem story was.

Beautiful work! Really looks like the wood counterpart, great job at translating it to metal.

That totem is awesome. I doubt any native american would have any problem with it. I agree that you're honoring the culture more than anything (myself and every mexican i know love when people of different races are into their culture).

You could always hang a green sheet and do the green screen thing for photoshopping.

Shooter, you are a true artist. That totem is awesome. And, you have a great story to tell about the totem to boot. I don't think any Native American should be offended by a non-Native making it. You are paying tribute and honor to their culture rather than demeaning it.

The biggest indication that your totem isn’t from the background scenes is the lighting. The reflections on your totem says the sun is off the left side but none of your backgrounds have the son there.

If you get a picture of the totem at a gray, evenly lit time of day then you can use photoshop to provide “sun reflections” that match your background.

Think about the color of the expected light, too. The reflection color is great for the sunset shots but off for the forest shot.

Re: Shootr's New Adventure - Totem Pole Build

Thank you all, for the kind words, not tearing down the pages and pages of posts, and for the too numerous to count helpful suggestions.

I find it the highest praise that it "looks" like a totem pole.

Smoker was fun and I use him every evening (that isn't over 100F) with pride. When I finished the Bears I realized using Smoker would ruin the concept.

I mentioned it before, but the theme evolved magnificently into:

The God's provide the village a fishing boat.
The Fisherman has a bounty of fish for the village.
So much so, he shares the fish with the Bears, and the Eagle, to maintain a karma balance with nature.

Doing some photoshop on the pics - erasing the backgrounds. It's impossible to get a good shot with the clutter.

As Les mentioned, it turned out better than I was initially expecting when you started.

You did a great job documenting it and keeping to the spirit of a totem pole.

The dog tags for the feathers is an excellent idea and really brings out the texture.
I will echo Les and Pat’s sentiments.

This is a photo from earlier in the thread…

I wasn’t exactly digging the concept or even getting the totem pole vision but I loved the skillcraft Shootr was gaining and appreciated the passion and fun he was getting out of it.

    Well done, Shootr[emoji481]
