Re: Northeastern Illinois "Weldorama" Sunday, 9/25/2016 When I need to weld and it's too hot out for long sleeves, I just pull on some of the cotton "sleeves" with elastic tops and cuffs. Pull 'em off when finished. That way I don't need to wear a long sleeve shirt or jacket. I've had enough skin cancers, so I'm not about to go sleeveless! No burn through or sunburn so far for several years with the slip-on, slip-off sleeves.

I got a real nice tan from that

Re: Northeastern Illinois "Weldorama" Sunday, 9/25/2016 vwguy3 , THANKS again Mike and Linda. Good job on the pics and again thanks for coming and you and your wife's generosity. I think we all had fun and the weather did hold out long enough for all to hit the road.

Re: Northeastern Illinois "Weldorama" Sunday, 9/25/2016 Better late than never, Someone kept saying how he could not stick weld, looked like he did ok to me,

Re: Northeastern Illinois "Weldorama" Sunday, 9/25/2016 Sounds like a great event with all the stars aligned for weather, variety of equipment, and turnout. Only dark cloud on the horizon was DSW's absence. Originally Posted by Equilibrium ... Burning metal with an SA200 is high on my bucket list, but don't know anyone locally who has one. Probably a slight exaggeration, but they seem to make anyone look like a pro. Any rod, any position, anytime. My perception, probably from watching "Fieldres" work his pipe magic on YT. There's no substitute for practice, but at some point the equipment becomes a limiting factor. I "made do" with a buzzbox for 2 decades, worked OK & the welds were usually structurally sound, but never good looking. The Idealarc was big step up, followed by an XMT350. The higher tech machine seems to compensate for operator error. And the next step is the larger-than-life SA200. Someday. I'd almost buy one off CL just to try it, but explaining it to my wife would be a challenge. Welding's still a hobby. Glad to hear the event was a success. Demo'ing other machines would be fun. Sounds like a home run on the food and socializing.

No problem, I know you would have done a great job too. You didn't miss much, whole bunch of machines to play with, all kinds of tools , various stick rods , filler rods, trucks, trailers, women , good brats from my home raised piggies , chicken without feathers , and most important cooking by DAND78 and his wife Joann ! Rain held out to the end , just got a wet a$$ putting stuff away. The weather was just great. Even gave the ladies FREE rides in my Polaris and showed off my Big boar named " Mick " . He's a handsome pig ! You would be proud !!!
Re: Northeastern Illinois "Weldorama" Sunday, 9/25/2016 Ain't it great putting faces to names? Glad to hear all y'alls had a great time!
Re: Northeastern Illinois "Weldorama" Sunday, 9/25/2016 It was an incredibly nice set up.... thank you BD1 for buying that fancy tent that we put all our food under. The weather couldn't have been better.... not too hot and not too cold with a little bit of a breeze. -- Truly enjoyed meeting everyone and definitely would do this again in a heart beat. Rog02 called to say hi while we were all sitting down to eat and everyone yelled out hello to him in unison. -- DanD78 was an excellent BBQ chef.... the meat turned out perfect!!! Really liked the taffy apple salad that vwguy3 made and I really enjoyed watching M J D welding. -- The youngster that BD1 teaches came for a few hours and had a big smile on her face the whole time she was there. She really enjoyed stick welding for the first time with help from the guys. She took me aside and told me everyone was so nice. Me.... I got a chance to TIG weld with Gamble calling out what to do to me. I really liked the little green machine he brought along. That SA200 that DanD78 brought along was calling to me to try it but I didn't quite know if I was up to it or not. -- Definitely missed DSW. I'm sure everyone will be missing him for a very long time to come. -- drujinin>!!!! You have my phone numbers in your dumb phone. I wish you would have called!!! I could have passed my dumb phone to BD1 and he could have talked you through how to join us. You, Rog02, and welderj were missed so much.
Re: Northeastern Illinois "Weldorama" Sunday, 9/25/2016 Looks like a nice get together. I'm sure everyone had a great time. It would be hard not having a good time with a SA200 purring in the background !! Steve Lincoln SA200 (1966 Redface) Lincoln IdealArc 250

You guys left and 15 minutes later it stormed . Did get a rain break and now raining again. Thanks again for coming, cooking, and SHARING that BEAUTY , the SA 200 !

Re: Northeastern Illinois "Weldorama" Sunday, 9/25/2016 [/ATTACH]Attachment 1515141SUCCESS ! Everything went well I say . Thanks to DAND78 for bringing his trailer load of goodies and his wife Joann for allowing him to come and play. They even took a break from welding to do the cooking ! I'm not sure if he's a better cook or welder. Thanks to for Gamble for bringing his goodies , those funny color machines are cute. VWGUY 3 and wife Linda for their free goodies and salad . MJD took time out from his shop to join us and brought goodies too. EQ brought the chicken , I hate pulling feathers off before eating. It was enjoyable to have a variety of machines to use. Dan allowed all of us to test drive his SA200 for FREE too. Great running machine . Gambles rainbow colored ones were cute and we did test them. We used a variety of 6010 rods from different manufactures . It was interesting to find out the little inverted preferred the RED Lincoln rod over the Hobart and 5P plus. Ok , now some pictures.
