    Re: powercut 1300 error code

You seem to know the workings of those machine.. If they could of just hung on just a bit longer,(to sort through reliability issues) I think they are a great cutting machine on a cnc table..

I have a feeling Esab/Victor/Thermal Dynamics are not quite done getting things sorted out.. Cutmaster will be a stopgap measure.. Probably a wise short term business move. (IMO)

Sadly, I'm pretty sure the powercut line is going away, in favor of the TD plasma cutters. I think the replacements are the A series.
I agree with you though, regarding the main board. Software is on the display board and everything else is on the main board.

. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure that when you power the unit on, it will display its' software version and do a Parts In Place check. When it does the PIP check, it's passing a small signal through the consumables and looks for the consumables to be shorted, then open, then shorted, indicating the torch is working correctly.

That is correct..software will show the version on startup..

I had that issue, and mine ended up being a main board.. Esab did not have one in stock, so sent out a new machine. Never had a issue with that one..It actually cut better on the 90 amp consumables better then the other machine. I called Esab, and the did say sometimes a plug can be loose, and give errors. Don't remember which one , it a J letter one.. Like J-12 or something??

I really the way the powercut worked. If they could get the thing more trustworthy, I own one over my current machine.Cuts .500/.625 super smooth, and straight at 70 amps output. Best I have seen in air plasma..

    Re: powercut 1300 error code

Well, not sure you are operating it incorrectly, there isn't enough info here to determine that, however, the 1300 is fairly easy to troubleshoot. I'm sure that you have already put a complete set of fresh, new, never used consumables in place and that your air pressure is set correctly. Next, ensure that the torch lead is firmly plugged in. That multi-pin connector can sometimes be a right royal pain. The air supply lead needs to be firmly attached as well. That being said, If the consumables didn't correct the issue and you have a valid OCV issue, there isn't much to be done. The 1300 has a display board, three of PWM driver boards and the Main board. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure that when you power the unit on, it will display its' software version and do a Parts In Place check. When it does the PIP check, it's passing a small signal through the consumables and looks for the consumables to be shorted, then open, then shorted, indicating the torch is working correctly.
When you pull the trigger to fire the torch, the Pilot arc current begins to flow through the consumables and the consumables (electrode/Nozzle) separate to create the pilot arc. There is a software routine running that will time out if it doesn't detect OCV in a specific time (200 msec??)
Other than that, I'm not a fan of the mains contactor that is used on the 1300/1600.

EDIT: if you're brave enough to crack open the case, you could check the driver board connections. After that, you may want to give ESAB tech support a call.

    powercut 1300 error code

I have a Esab powercut 1300, got the error code 13, took it in got it repaired (it took about 7 weeks I believe). I have about 3 hours on the machine since fixing it and the error code 13 came up again. The error code 13 is OCV (open circuit voltage) failure. What is happening to make this happen and am I operating the machine in a way that is causing it to happen. (I bought the machine new)
