When had my shop I used 60 gal tank so air compresser did not have cycle as often.
They make oil for wide range temperatures.
Where live it rare it drops below 32°F.
But we had wait till temperatures was above 65°F for painting.
The summer comes night temperatures are in upper 80's°F daytime 110's°F a different problem for oil.

My old air compressor sat in an unheated shop for years. My new one is in a heated dog house on the side of the shop and I'd never go back. Yes, lines do freeze up, moisture in the bottom of the tank is there until spring, belts get stiff, oil gets stiff and probably speeds up wear in the compressor itself, and you need the subzero hoses or they get so stiff they are a pain to work with. Doghouse is my solution. Coldest my old shop got was likely somewhere around -30C.

Yeah way too many negatives to a few positives. Oil is cold causing a huge load on the motor. Pressure switch can get finicky and even V belts don't perform well in the cold. In 40 or so years I've never been around an outside installed compressor so I don't see the need now. Certainly auto drains would fail in just about any freezing situation.

I would build enclosed in summer.
If live in Alaska they build below 0

I do not moving it is pain it takes years for everything to be right again. I can fell your pain.

The first I do after my car is in garage I install a sub panel for power. It was also used for kitchen too.

I would mount the phase convert on the block wall to keep noise down. I would put the covert outside.

You will find something local, or close enough, and be at a price you can afford. There is more old iron on the market than ever. Keep the truck gassed up with the trailer waiting when you need it!

Yeah the well used thing is definitely true. I have the mill- drill which does what I need for the most part. Eventually one will pop up at the right time.
