Re: There Are SO MANY Welding Lenses,, Has Anyone Tried More Than Two Or Three?? I'll have to check one out when my cheap autodark dies. I have a flip up Jackson with a Philips gold #10 that I use for low amperage tig and want to keep it a passive so I don't get flashed.

I got blue eyes and in my mid fifties, been welding and fabin' for about 25 years. just recently bought some Wens lens's, 8 and 9. Having a hard time seeing the pipe joint mostly on cap. 8 is a little to bright, 9 almost good but got a Aluketro from Wens lens in #10. real clear and hardly any orange flares. The Aluketro is a green lens with gold coating, cost about 20 bucks and way better than those 4 dollar ones from the Welding supply. Also really Love the Arc One 240, shade 10 got that in my Original Pancake, real clear. Basically try them all until the box is full of lenses and then you'll know.

Today I use a auto hood adjustable #8-12 and #3 and #5 gold for torch welding. Blue eyes are more sensitive to light,, I never wore sunglasses until I was old enough to get Social Security,, and even now, I seldom wear them. The sun never seemed to bother my eyes, even in bright snow.

That dude uses a shade 8 or 9, I can't even fathom it, only time i've gone as low as a 9 was welding .040 titanium tube at like 30 amps, I run a 12 as my gp lense and keep a pair of dark glasses I wear over the 12 for running high amp/volt MIG and fluxcore.

I have a 2x4 gold lens that I suspect is 40+ years old and it is a gray lens with gold. The color difference is staggering......the old lens is night and day better. If someone here has a source for the gray style gold coated lens I would be interested to know.

Look in the archives on here, CEP found some lenses he really liked. Can't remember if they were Phillip's Optical or something else. Genuine Lincoln clear view lenses are liked but might not be easy to find. Gold lenses are bad if they get scratched and they scratch fairly easily. Cobalt blue are almost impossible to find and very pricey if you do find them. Glass lenses are way better than plastic lens, the same as glass cheaters are better than plastic.
