Nope no factory bumper under it. I ran out of time and didn't get skid plate made so I did go with expanded metal in the center. Looks pretty good. I also never got a chance to get pictures of the headache rack I built or with it mounted on my dad's truck cause I met up with him last night and we had to get it installed before the rain.

    Re: Super Duty bumper

THAT is a big-@$$ bumper .......... Expanded metal mesh would help keep the bigger rocks out, too, maybe a set of screens over the lights?

I'm with Samm on bumper-building, but I've found a nice piece of 3" square tube will sure keep the front end protected. (Works well on the rear end, too. I watched a guy in a '55 Chevy Apache backing out of his driveway with a 3" square tube rear bumper, and this dumb lady came screaming down the street in a '70's Mustang. She hit the corner of that bumper right behind the left front wheel, and opened the whole side of the car like a can opener. My neighbor was pissed - broke one of the bumper bolts, and scratched up his brand-new Rustoleum black paint job on the bumper.. )

Alright, answer a couple things, wello, this was built for my dad's truck, he's not going to be rock crawling or anything, if he ever does hit anything on the sides it will be a full on accident, not normal wear and tear. For anyone else I would've added something on the bottom going towards the ends of the bumper, but where he drives, and considering he has a stock SD with stock little tires, he needs all the ground clearance he can get. He would've bent any kind of gusset on the outer edges off first time out.

Aceman, there's going to be skid plates put on in there to protect the radiator and tranny cooler.

Looks like the next time a passing truck throws a rock it's going to go right into the radiator/tranny cooler area where it's exposed now.

    Re: Super Duty bumper

The new rounded front ends make it a real challenge to build a good looking bumper these days. This one looks pretty cool. Specially the way the pipe comes up from the bottom at the factory bumper mounts.

You have to be good with pipe (which I'm not)

I guess the only way to reinforce the corners would be to carry the traditional boxed style bumper on around the corner, and hook the pipe into it. I've never looked at one closely, and I'm not too sure how they're doing it.

My bumper skills are limited to hanging a piece of square tubing on the front of the truck

Anybody know whether custom bumpers alter the designed in crumple zones on the truck?

not a bad looking bar nice work
but leaves alot of the front of the vehicle unprotected hit something on the side it would take the side bars into the mudguards real quick

    Super Duty bumper

Last 3 days we've been working on this. First one for us, built this one for my dad. Not on my dad's truck my buddy Brian who built it with me owns the truck. We designed the plates and got them lasered out and we're building one for his truck, will be different design, then build another one for sale.

Only thing left is paint and meet up with my dad Friday before he leaves to put it on his '06.

I also built a, well it's like a headache rack but nothing covering the back window, mainly it's a bed saver for hauling the four wheeler and light mounts he wants to put for hooking up the horse trailer in the dark. No pictures yet, forgot to get them of that, but will.
