Yeah, sure. People build smokers from air compressor tanks all the time. Are you sure that's a 60 gallon? Looks pretty big. Those tanks are ASME certified and they have a tag that gives the wall thickness. The rounded caps are usually thicker. Around 3/16" +/- Might want to check the compressor pump, maybe it just needs a motor...

I've got a little 30 gallon that I made into a vertical smoker when I was first learning how to weld. Works great for now about 8 years! The "medium" Big Green Egg grate fit it perfectly! I just got a 80 gallon tank to build another one.

A coworker made one from 1/2 of a 1,000 gallon propane tank and mounted to to a trailer. It's Yuuuuge!

Depends on how thick it is. Probably needs to be 1/4 inch or more, not sure how thick compressors usually are. Most people use old propane tanks. I built mine out of 24 inch standard wall pipe (3/8") I bought from a welder at work, I gave him $100 for it.

You should look on your local Facebook Marketplace.

I bought this 250 gallon propane tank for $120, haven't got started on this build yet.

I'd want something for free, like an old HW heater or even an old refrigerator...but I'm cheap.

One of the local propane dealers has a huge backlog of old 100 gallon propane bottles that are out of hydrotest. Once when I was getting a BBQ bottle filled, I asked the guy what they did with the old bottles (I wanted one for a reservoir for compressed air in my shop) and he gave me one for free. From what I hear, they have trouble getting rid of them because nobody wants to mess with cutting them up for recycling or whatever.

    Smoker Build from Air Compressor

    Hi Guys,

I'm debating building a smoker from an air compressor tank but I first need to find a deal on an air compressor. I found the below 60 gallon air compressor listed for $100 online. Does this look smoker worthy condition for the price? Let me know!
