Yea thats the one, then drove 800 miles To pick it up But thats the way it is i guess When we live in this section of the country.

Be advised that with the angle on the apron removed the capacity is reduced by at least 2 gauges. Standard is to set the top leaf back by twice the material thickness. If you run out of a$$ to make a wide bend, setting it back even further will reduce the effort required. Do not use the forklift to complete a bend you can't pull and expect to have a good brake when you finish.

Just thought I would let you all know that I ended up buying the brake. Got it for 3000 dollars. still a lot of money but all the dies were there as well a one full length one if I wanted to use it as a full pan brake. thanks Paul

Old brochures are so much better than the new ones. Never knew Chicago made so many different types of brakes.

nice brake but priced a bit high.
as others have said, 4ft may be too little for what you will do. i have one and wish most of the time i had 6 or 8 ft.

Its an old chicago thats all electric, electric motor driving a gear box Turn the motor on to make the Bend then motor off when it hits the angle switch its a model 62 https://www.sterlingmachinery.com/me...s-brochure.pdf

I have that machine. I use it regularly. It is a bit pricey for it, but it is a good machine. Most longer machines are leaf only until you step up to a press brake. I farm out longer stuff to a press brake shop.

I have used the 6 foot manual version of that break. As MJD mentioned, it takes a lot of power to bend the full width with thicker material. In one instance, there were two of us lifting to make a couple of bends.

Only you can decide how big will work for you. Chicago is a very good brand. Everybody always wants bigger but do you have room for a 15' wide 3000 ton brake?

Any wider than 4' will take some serious muscle to bend 12 gauge, even 14 gauge. It mainly comes down to your intended uses. If you need wider material bent your probably better hiring it out, unless it's a constant thing, and then a brake press would be a better choice.

Box and Pan Break question

I have a chance to buy this Chicago box and pan brake for 3500 dollars. Very little use. It is 4 foot and bends up to 12 gauge. Im wondering if I will regret buying this 4 foot model rather than getting a 6 or even 8 foot model. I was considering a Baileigh which I don't believe is as good as the Chicago I'm looking at plus the Chicago is local. Have any of you folks bought the 4 foot model bender and regret getting something longer. I do some fab work but mostly farm machinery repairs and machining. thanks Paul
