    Yep,
A drill press will ruin your day also...

Position the drill vice or work so it catches the post if it grabs and spins..... instead of taking your hand off.

....but I completely disagree with his assessment of the cause of the accident. He should have repositioned his workpiece so that an unexpected catch or jump of the tool would not place his body in the line of fire.
Yup, I agree. Should have been holding it so it goes away from him should it catch.
Same principal as a kickback on a chain saw. you hold a chainsaw so the tip is just on the underside of a vertical cut or piece, it has no choice but to come back toward you, when it digs in the distance shortens, pushes against you and up it goes, it has to go somewhere.
Didn't explain that the best but I know what I mean LOL..................Mike

I might have missed it, but I completely disagree with his assessment of the cause of the accident. He should have repositioned his workpiece so that an unexpected catch or jump of the tool would not place his body in the line of fire.

I am just as likely as anyone to become complacent in the shop, but receiving industrial safety training throughout my career has definitely prevented me from doing some things that would have gotten hurt just due to a lack of knowing ahead of time.

The chainsaw disc for grinders is scary enough.

Pretty sure that 4 1/2 " grinder runs 3000-4000 rpms faster than a 2 stroke chainsaw, that alone is unsafe, then factor in the loose chain. But hey, at least he had an automatic oiler! I think he should incorporate some buckin' teeth into that chain gaurd.

The chainsaw disc for grinders is scary enough. I really could use one to remove bark from slabs and projects, but arthritis has weakened my grip. Have had the grinder with just a regular grinding wheel come out of my hands a time or two. Will stay away from anything with blades on a grinder.

They'd work pretty good for cutting a carcass in half if you could get a fine enough chain. I didn't like the bone fragments it left in the pork chops so I went back to the recip saw.

    I don’t think I’ll ever need to turn a grinder into a
chainsaw.Only good use I’ve ever had for an electric
chainsaw was cutting up dunnage for rigging/ moving
    projects in a mill.

I think you can buy a new electric at HoDe for less than the investment in this Darwin saw.

Nice loose chain. One nail in one piece of wood and I wonder where that chain will wrap around...

    Terrible idea in my opinion...

Special award for the locked-on switch so that if anything bad happens it stays running wide open...

Most of his tacks are suspect! Barely, if at all fused on one side. That could be pretty scary if something let go.

Chain seems to be spinning fairly fast... wonder how the speeds compare?
