Re: SA200 won't run certain grinders You need to put a ac generator on belt drive . It is pain in the butt the DC out put. Re: SA200 won't run certain grinders What would be really cool was if you converted a pistol into a functioning Mig gun. I'd bet they'd sell like hotcakes. Imagine coming across the border and you tell them you bought a new (Mig) gun.

Re: SA200 won't run certain grinders Mine aren't burned up. I can use them plugged in to any other power source, just not my SA200.
Re: SA200 won't run certain grinders To funny, my SA200 is code 3555.
Re: SA200 won't run certain grinders Yes, all SA200s are DC.
Re: SA200 won't run certain grinders To funny, my sa200 is code 3555!
Re: SA200 won't run certain grinders The older SA200's only had 9 amps DC if I recall so likely wouldn't run a 7" grinder very well or at all. The newer SA's were 15 amp DC I believe. Not sure of the amps on the 4 1/2" but would think under 9 amps.
Re: SA200 won't run certain grinders The old drills and grinders had brush type universal motors and would run on ac or dc. A lot of the newer tools are different.
Re: SA200 won't run certain grinders Are the ones that don't run brushless motors ?
Re: SA200 won't run certain grinders I noticed Rigid “pony “ pipe threaders say “A-C only” on them. I figured it might be because people tried to run them on Lincoln welders with 110v. d.c. and burned them up.
Re: SA200 won't run certain grinders a couple/few yrs ago, i looked at the list of all the dewalt grinders, and they only had 1 or two, that were dc out of all there many grinders they offer. one being the 28402 in the top pic. i use the 28402's, and the 28114. i dont remeber if there was a big/15 amp grinder or not in dc, cuz all new big ones are junk (to me anyway). also, the sa 200 dont really put enough amps out to run the big grinder right anyway. other option is if room on truck, just run a costco generator for ur grinders/tools - cheap, light gas, and sometimes its amazing how much you can prep w/ it, before having having to start up the 4 cyl machine. i alsao have a 58 sa 200, code 3554, and its one of my favorites, however it not running right now
Re: SA200 won't run certain grinders Yes, the SA200s were DC only. I only used tools that were labeled AC/DC on the nameplates. Some newer stuff is AC only, especially variable speed tools or grinders with the soft start features. I hope the OP didn't cause any damage to his grinders. I once had a guy plug my air conditioning vacuum pump into an SA and let the magic smoke out of the motor. After that the SA's got placards stuck next to the outlet reading "DC power only. If you don't know what that means, don't plug ANYTHING into this outlet". Now it's all Miller trailblazers for me.
Re: SA200 won't run certain grinders The SA200 may be producing DC rather than AC voltage,, or some weird frequency. Many older tools were labeled as AC,,, or AC/DC,, the one that works is 99% probable labeled as AC/DC,,,
