One of the secrets to running aluminum electrodes is to try to run them at a 90 degree angle or close. They like to arc blow if you tilt them much at all. Prepare to travel at hyper speed too. Also make great oxyfuel brazing rods.

The spec sheet doesn't say much about the chemistry of this electrode, but it isn't made for critical welds, mainly for simple repairs. It also recomends a cleaning method , and preheating before welding. Let us know What you think of it after you try it.

You may want to practice a little before you need to use it for an emergency repair. It runs a little different than steel rods. It burns hot , fast , and smokey. it would be a good idea to find some scrap to practice on first.

I've done a little stick aluminum, either 1/8 or 5/32, the biggest issue was the NASTY white flux, it smokes badly and is very hard to clean off after welding , kind of reminded me of melted brazing flux.

I have welded with some stick aluminum rods in the past, not too pretty but in a pinch will get the job done, just not pretty. There's been tests done here on occasion with aluminum stick rods so a little search should get you the results. Best of luck, Bob

Crown Alloys Royal 300 aluminum electrodes - anyone ever run them?

My usual supply place had a box of these - Crown Alloys Royal 300 - aluminum electrodes so I got a pound of it to try. I don't have any projects with aluminum right now, but I have done quite a bit of aluminum sheet metal work over the past 5-10 years and have scraps to practice with. Any tips on running them?

The current doesn't seem very high - 50-100 amps for 3/32", DCEP.
