    Re: Barrel Incinerator

My leaf incinerator was a barrel with several 3" x 6" ventlation slots at the bottom and an expanded metal support resting on a couple of pieces of rebar to keep the stuff being burned above the vent slots. A piece of harware cloth over the top held fly ash inside. Lit from the top, it burned without quickly and without smoke.

We've had too many "Do not burn days" in recent years because of lack of rain, so the leaves now go in a compost pile.

What works for leaves should also work for paper and wood scraps. If the stuff you burn needs more air for combustion, drill 1/2" holes in a piece of pipe (I used water heater vent pipe because I had it) and run it up the center of the barrel.

The best burn barrel is a regular barrel with 4 inch feet and the top and bottom cut out of it. you can burn almost anything you put in the barrel. when you are finished move the barrel and remove the ash and metal left behind. you won't find a better burner than this. Ihave used this style barrel for years. over time you will have to replace you barrel due to it burning away. I would like to get a stainless barrel and see how long that would last.

    Barrel Incinerator

    Guys,

Has anyone built a good, hot brning incinerator for yard waste, paper, etc?

I'm thinking lots of good venting up the side and a door at the bottom to remove ashes, maybe a stack to help draw more air through.

    Thoughts?

    Sean.
