I recently bought a SSQA plate off of ebay too. I saw the ones that came with 3 welding rods (I also went WTF?) but they mentioned it was so you could weld whatever your thingy was onto the plate. Silly. I got a one from a different vendor and it is very well put together. I guess I am glad I got this one, but no way to know before it shows up... I also have no doubt it came from China by the container load. This was mine

Geez....I'd have to re-weld all that too. What a terrible job.

I just ordered a 1/2" quick attach because it was cheaper than buying the steel.

But those big companies buy a train-car load of steel at a time - probably super cheap at that volume...

A trailer parts dealer told me that's how they buy their trailer axles and various items.

Clearly they can't build one (properly) for $139 either.

That's crazy cheap... over here, that price would barely cover the materials.

China is capable of very high quality welding but total crap seems acceptable too. Just depends on the standards for the specific product or manufacturer. Something to think about with a $139 adaptor plate.

Not all Chinese welding is bad, I recall seeing a documentary about the last of Chinese steam locomotive building in the 1990's (really), It showed some really good looking weld construction work. Of course this was not export work.

I thought maybe the correct number of rods is taped to each project so the weldors don't waste rods. I guess this weldor had extras and I can believe it.

Chinese House brand made by Malaysian company ?

So, did you try welding with that "J422" electrode ?

There is a reason it you can't build it for $139. I'd redo all the welds.

    Re: Disgusting factory welds

Must be a weld-it-yourself kit. Should have come with a free grinding wheel. I saw a listing somewhere that said "J422 - 6013 bridge building electrode" , it does have that first weld with 6013 , slag underneath , hard to remove look to it. Just surprised it wasn't a cold solid wire mig weld, which most cheaper import implements seem to have. With the cost of steel now , its still a good deal. Don't forget to post some pic's of your repair, Thanks for sharing.

It looks like slag & weld metal are just about evenly splt
I don't know if it beeds to be fully welded, but it definitely needs better welds than what I see. The J422 is available on AMAZON and is classified as being for carbon & stainless.

    Disgusting factory welds

After selling the tapered bucket for my skid loader a year ago, I decided to build another one. I ordered the attachment plate again as I can't build one for $139. The last 2 I've bought were very well made. The welds were perfect and the strap across the top was welded all the way. I couldn't find the company I used before so went with another one. The top strap has 5 little, narrow welds across it. The sides of the strap and the ends of the plates have welds that look like a kid welded them. I mean they are absolutely horrible. I will have to grind them all out and reweld them, they are so bad.

There were 3 rods taped inside the top strap, I don't know why. They are labeled J422. I have no idea what they are.
