I'm going "green" on welding shielding gas, lol.

But seriously, it's kinda like using a gas-lens on a TIG torch. You can get by with using a little less argon flowrate for a given cup diameter and tungsten stick-out by using a gas lens, right? Well, there's nothing wrong with saving shielding gas with MIG-MAG either. I don't have to have 3/4"-1" of exposed dual shield wire and thus having to use a lot more argon flow (40-50CFH, as per Lincoln Literature).

With the Super Nozzle, it's like short-circuit MIG where all I need is 3/8"-7/16" wire stick-out past the nozzle orifice while still retaining the recommended CTWD for 045 dual shield (3/4"-1"), and using a proportionately lower amount of shielding gas. For that nozzle in the video (which is a straight cylindrical nozzle), I only need ~28 CFH ± 5 CFH with the nozzle about 3/8" from the part (depending on joint geometry). With smaller 035 wire, I can use the standard conical nozzle that has a slightly smaller orifice and I can get away with 24 CFH ± 5 CFH, again depending on joint geometry. Here is my thread about my experiment: project: lowering flowrates for dual shield flux core

I don't really get anything out of this mod, as shielding gas isn't too expensive, thankfully. But I've read in other parts of the world where welding shielding gas are prohibitively expensive for refills. So it was more of an challenge exercise for myself, while also trying to help others out that may not be in the same position as myself or someone else. Some people are paying upwards of $100USD for a refill/swap that others pay $30-$40 USD for the same amount of shielding gas. Can't change prices of vendors, but we can find work-arounds. Like I said, I like to give more than I take.

Why do you experiment with other brands of wire if you know that Lincoln's makes one of the best? A German brand without the benefit of being made in Germany [emoji848].

You're right about the nozzle being "buried" in the puddle. It is on purpose so I don't have to waste shielding gas. The CTWD is about 7/8"-1". I am using a custom-made nozzle that recesses the tip about 5/8" inside the nozzle. So by the time you add the ~3/8" from the nozzle to the workpiece, I end up right smack in the middle of the suggested range for 045 dual shield. Most literature suggests 3/4"-1". I experiment with other brands of wire for the sake of pure knowledge, and experience. Also so I can help others who might be looking for great deals on other brands of wire. I like to give more than I take.

    Re: Anyone use this wire?

From what I've read, I think Lincoln is still pretty much the "gold standard" for E71T-1C/1M dual shield, but I've also seen videos of Eutectics DO266S and Select Arc running very well, as well.

Kiswel also makes an economical dual shield wire that can be had at a very good price, about $55 for two 10# rolls of 035 on Ebay. A 33# roll of 045 is only $80 shipped, but it's CO2 only, not C25..

Runs well, IMO as a weekend/garage warrior. Leaves black "specks" after slag removal. Kinda like some kind of residue on the top of the bead, but it seems to be just aesthetic in nature.

In a bit I'm about to try out Böhler's E71T-1M dual shield. $75 for 33# at the LWS.

It's funny how a lot of people gave that Blue Demon dual shield 1-star rating because they thought it was gasless flux core, and this one guy goes on a commenting-rampage and reply's to all the negative comments about how they don't know what they're doing for thinking it was gasless flux core and not knowing it was dual shield

I've been using this wire on.035 in my old Tweco Fabricator 211, Vulcan 215, and Fronius Transteel 2200 and it's been great on both CO2 and C25.

    Yes,
many 200 amp and below migs, run the very best on .030 wire.. It get you close to .023 on sheet-metal and about all you can use on top. Perfect wire for many machines, and overall welding.

    Re: Anyone use this wire?

A lot of smaller machines 215 amps and below ship new with 2lb sample spools of .030 wire. The Rebels ship with some variant of ESAB 2lb sample .030 Spoolarc wire. It seemed to run good but I’m a beginner at mig welding with limited experiance so I really wouldn’t know what to look for when using different wire types. To me when the wire melts it’s doing it’s job.

Many of the small migs like the old Miller 211 are awesome with .030. Many members have them and end result is .030 is perfect.
It's like using 3/32 Lo hi instead of 1/8" .
Better control and smaller puddle. Depends what you like.
That wire isn't bad cost wise. I use the Lincoln L -56 super arc 12 pound spools. I have plenty in stock that I purchased from Zoro tool. I loaded up when they had a flash 30% off sale. It came out to $28.00 for 12 pounds and free shipping. Current price is $40 to $50.

Always heard good things about INE made in italy wire, though I can't speak from experience. Great deal though.

INE was very common in days past, seems less so now and I've also heard the old made in italy harbor freight wire was from INE and was one of their gems.

Other than the usual lincoln solid and harris self shielded flux I've been running harbor freight made in china vulcan wire and it has been running pretty smooth, must say. I think the arc on the lincoln is a little smoother but it could just be in my head.
