I bought this model welder new in 1980. The muffler indicates your welder it is probably a
later issue in the series, and will not have the following problem.

Very early examples [in the 100's] had a flawed rotor pilot bushing/bearing, which resulted

Your welder has cycled way-more than 3 pounds of rod - and most likely was truck/trailer
mounted - note, the battery box is missing, and the skid channels have been Gas-Axed, and
bolted transversely underneath its original home.

This modification is grounded - the small OEM battery never had enough crank power,
or duration. Mine [from new and cold] was always hard to start even in mild weather.

For its age and use - yours should clean up nicely.

Kudos - for see work that needs to be done - for people who don't ask . . .

Thanks for that information, I will check the number to see. I just like that it is a B & S engine so the young man can get it worked on at a lawn mower shop and not have to take it to the big city to an Onan place.

Actually I was wondering if you have thought of making up a statement so your neighbor could turn it into the driver's insurance company. Let him keep the money and offset the value of the welder.

Those old WaP units are still popular around here with farmers and small construction guys due to the honest to gawd 6KW genset as well as a decent weld capability.

I got no hard *** cred. I'm pretty much a wuss.

I've got a young man down the road from me that is eat up with welding that I will probably give the machine to in exchange for a little labor here in the shop. I've already given him a torch and regulators. The drill press may come in handy as the one I have was made in the 40's and may not last forever.

Congrats on the new acquisitions.

I too was a recent recipient of a free small engine drive welder. A Miller Roughneck 2E just like my first ever engine drive I had several years ago and eventually sold to another member here. Haven't done anything with it yet as I have too many other projects to attend to.

It just goes to show what being a good guy can do.

I stopped at my neighbors entrance down the road last Friday to fix some pipe that had been broken when a car hit it. I thought I could do it and get gone with out getting caught. He is one of those old guys that just won't let any one do him a favor. He has to pay for any thing done for him even if it takes a few minutes to fix. He caught me as I was rolling up and wanted to pay me for the 30 minutes it took. I told him no way, it was just the neighborly thing to do. He insisted and asked if I would like a welding machine instead of money. He gave me a Lincoln welding machine that hadn't been started in several years. It had the original 10# box of rods he bought with it, about 3#'s missing. Not being even remotely a mechanic, it is at the small engine shop getting fixed.

I was at the feed store a couple hours later, telling the old geezers that drink coffee there about it, when one said " while your getting free stuff, why don't you come by the house and pick up a drill press that has the table broke on it. It's cast iron and the weldor over in Liberty Hill said it couldn't be welded". I went and got it, took it to the shop and had it fixed before dark.

I wish I could have gotten some of this free stuff when I first started instead of now when I don't need it
