Yea I saw those, roughly $700 for 12V/100AH. And I bet those are the cheap ones lol

At times I only had mig welder and do the stick welding so needs to build a small gasoline power mig welder.

These packs will each withstand 480 amps intermittent/240 amps continuous load without damage to the cells.

Not any faster than the time it takes for someone to come up with a scenario where it's application isn't suited for in the first place.
I definitely aren't saying that one doesn't have a very limited use. It's usefulness for what it can do if/when needed is hard to deny too.

That would support 180A at no higher than ~26V arc voltage assuming 80% welder efficiency for 10 min. Next question!

Not sure what your getting at. I'm not saying what you're saying about the Hobart isn't true. My analysis was not of the hobart you mentioned, it was of the setup I depicted as an example.

I read the manual on the Hobart that Hobart printed.

The Hobart cordless welder has a welding time at 180 amps of 2 minutes.
Maybe back to old days gas power may work longer.

I have had few times I wished for some like this but you do need a longer battery life

What happened to the good old days of using jumper cables and truck battery. If you had to takeout battery out and move closer to work.

    Dave

FYI I have 10lb tube of rod for field welding for truck.

    Re: Dewalt cordless welder

I have a brand new one of these.

    https://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-In...744789448&th=1

Been wanting to install it in my Van. 3 years later it is sitting on the shelf still. The guy's run 4 1/2" grinders off from these little units just like plugged into utility power. Of course you can't run long without the vehicle running unless you install more battery.

Never tried running my Mulitimatic 200 off one but willing to bet it would power it. Make a portable multi process easily on a cart with a few good sized batteries and have mig, tig and stick capabilities. The suitcase style case of the Multimatic 200 is designed for mobility. Haven't run stick off it but the tig arc is just about as sweet as my Dynasty 280. Even at lower settings it does awesome.

    Re: Dewalt cordless welder

You're better off putting together your own power source on a rolling cart, like 2-3 cheap SLA 12V/100Ah batteries coupled with a pure sinewave power inverter feeding a lunchbox inverter stick welder, aka a rolling generator/welder.

3000W Pure Sine Wave Inverter $355

    3000W Step-up Transformer $80

    12V/100AH SLA battery

Say 3 batteries ($450) the voltage converter and sine wave power inverter, that's $885.

Yes it'd be heavy, yes you'd be in it for some money, not even including the welder, but hey that's only another $100 at today's Amazon prices for a lunchbox stick welder like my Tooliom 135S. So for $1000 (not counting perhaps a custom rolling tote/crate that needs to be fab'd up) you could have a battery powered welder that could pay itself off in a few jobs. So who's gonna make one?

for serious repair work they're not up to snuff, but ive used the fronius one a bit and for repairing a bit of handrail 10 floors up or small things like that they're handy as, not worth it for home use but say you do quoted repair work they can be a huge time saver.

    Re: Dewalt cordless welder

Will it do carbon-arc gouging? I've always thought of "cordless welders" about like "cordless outboard motors" or "battery-powered locomotives"... neat idea, but, well...

    Re: Dewalt cordless welder

I remember when they came out 3 yrs ago or so. They were insane expensive and pretty limited as far as output and run time. Probably didn't sell very many so they discontinued the product.

Looks like it's discontinued. Has anyone ever used one?
