    Re: TIG burn

Once I hit about 40 the little burns started leaving lasting marks. Somewhere around 4t I couldnt weld without a welding coat on or I would get sunburned. It only gets worse the older you get. I think once you reach about 90 you must spontaneously combust if you leave any skin exposed while welding.

If i have a lot to do, i wear a welding jacket; i then sweat so much i get zapped by the high frequency start and toss my torch across the shop....dang, it ain't easy living in the tropics!

Opus, some medicines for the clap cause sensitivity to the Sun. When you say outa the box, is that what you meen???

I once heard that you ain't a man til you had the clap but at the same time, it was also said, your lucky if you didn't get it. That's confusing just like what you say sometimes

Edit: ljdm, I like aloe if you can get it off the plant but the drugstore type also cools and soothes the burn. I heard aloe farms in Texas were growing for nuclear radiation burns and I believe that

Funny you mention that, just this morning I was talking about it to my brother-in-law, he said one of my meds does say stay out the sun. Go figure. I'll just have to cover up more than usual.

Might as well ditch the hood and boots, and rock sun glasses and flip flops at those puny amps.

After all it is summer time, and everybody knows all the cool kids ditch their PPE come summer time.

    Re: TIG burn

I've read somewhere that the UV from Tig is much more intense than from stick or mig all parameters being the same.

Thing is, I almost never burn(dark Italian skin), and was such a short time welding, at only 125 amps. Guess my skin has changed over time.

    TIG burn

Never had this problem, just within the last year, 3rd time. This was from TIG welding for approx 5mins at the most, at only 130amps max. Hate to have to cover up more now that warmer weather is here. Unless somehow I've become more sensitive to UV? Either that, or just another "Getting older" symptom.Attachment 1702338
