powermax 30xp consumable question
just got new powermax 30xp the other day. its my first plasma cutter and used it first time today and it cuts nice and fast. fine piece of machinery for sure. right away i got a good feel for how fast to cut so almost no slag is left behind. anyways i want to get some spare consumables of the high wear items on hand so theres no down time in the middle of a job. is electrodes and nozzles the two pieces that normally wear out and should they be changed at the same time ? i see theres 5packs of electrodes and nozzles and a pack of 2each electrode and nozzle.
Re: powermax 30xp consumable question
Hypertherm recommends that the electrode and nozzle be replaced in pairs.
This is based on always getting the best and cleanest cut.
That said, some plasma cutters can get away with changing two nozzles to one electrode. You have to watch the wear pit on the end of the electrode. See owner's manual for how to tell when the electrode is worn out and the pit is to large.
The nozzle wears out when the hole gets to large or out of round.
You can see this when the cut suffers and the cut speed slows down.
For best life you must use only clean, dry and oil free air set to the correct pressure.
Re: powermax 30xp consumable question
i ordered 2 electrode and 2 nozzle. that should get me by for a while. ive been using oil free compressor and additional external air filter system so i should be good thanks
Re: powermax 30xp consumable question
still have to use a filter that removes water.
Re: powermax 30xp consumable question
ya i have also the additional filter from hypertherm which is for water i believe

Re: powermax 30xp consumable question
i had seen videos of a 30xp cutting 3/4 steel but i had to try myself. as expected its a bit slow but it cuts it. i likely wont ever have a need to cut 3/4 so this was just for the hek of it using a steel plate i brought home from work
