How to upload/post a picture

Here are the basics steps.

1. Left click on Post Reply,
2. Type a message or short note in the "Your Reply" area,
3. Below the "Smileys" on the left going down the page you will see the area: "Attach file: to the right of that there will be a "Browse..." button, left click the button 1 time.

Now you will have a file from your hard drive open up.

4. Find the file/picture on your hard drive you want to post on WeldingWeb.
5. Double click or left click to select the file/picture, then hit the enter key.
6. You can then check your spelling or Submit your Reply.
If you picture is within the parameters of WeldingWeb.com 800 x 600, your picture will be posted, if not you will get a message that your picture is too large.

If you get the message that your picture is too large you will have to resize the image. You must have a software program that allows you to edit/manipulate images.

Chuck are you talking physical size in pixels, or space size in Kb?

Chuck said 800x600 which is picture size in pixels. However I just checked and file size is 150kb so as long as you don't exceed that you should be fine.

Space in kb *153600* , 800 x 600 size limit... this helps prevent page scrolling and is pretty much standard format. *IMO*

Should be plenty... believe it or not some people have bitched cuz they could not upload their 8MB 2048 x 1536 pic they snapped off their new $900 digital camera.

I did this using embedded html and using the path to my pictures on my website.
Here are the html lines used to post the pictures:

You don't have to be a geek to do this stuff (fortunately), so I'll algore this question.
Type in the (without quotes) "img src=" (unless it is already in place) then copy & paste the picture address from your personal web space. For instance I have this picture posted to my swbell space :

so if I add it's address to the html above, I get the proper form to post the picture here using the img button on the reply form:

img src=http://home.swbell.net/traderod/motorandplate.jpg

The problem with doing that is I have to be willing to keep that picture on my limited webspace for as long as I want it to be viewable whereas if I upload the picture here, it is not taking up any of my personal space.

If you look at my picture you see that it actually consists of 2 photos pasted together. The easy way to do this is to use my favorite photo manipulation (free) program - Iview. With minimal practice, you can learn to crop, re-size, lighten & darken, increase/decrease contrast, compress the files sizes down to help meet the max file size requirement, and paste pictures together and much more. I used to do quite a bit of selling on ebay & this kind of program is essential for handling pictures. For that matter I had to have it for buying too because so many ebay dabblers post pictures that are so dark & muddy I couldn't tell what the hell they were trying to show without gamma correcting them when viewing.
Iview is available here for anyone ambitious enough (ducking) to download it and learn to use it.

I use Adobe photoshop 7.0. With a Sony Syber-shot 5.0 mega pixels. I found out with camera you have to resize the pic everytime and use the vga. I just need to also learn to post several pic

That's way more camera than you need to post pictures, Robert D. so You'd do yourself a favor to take the pictures using the lowest resolution. Then crop out all unneed area & then compress it.
Sure makes it easier to load for the guys on dialup.

How would I go about posting a short video? (mpg)

Photoshop and many other programs will also allow you to change the resolution of your photo. If you've taken the picture with a digital camera, it's a high resolution photo. When you change the image size in photoshop, there is also an option to change the resolution. set it to 72 dpi as this is the optimal resolution for a computer screen. This makes the files a lot smaller

I just wanted to be clear, this is not my work, but, I thought some folks would get a kick out of this. There is a guy in my town that does some welding art. Notice the use of oxygen tanks. I have been admiring this guys work for a few years now, but I have never actually met the guy. Small towns arent what they used to be. I'll try to find out if he puts some of his work on-line. If he does, I'll post the website. Maybe one day I'll buy a good camera also, instead of borrowing a crappy one. I should probably be more selective of my friends...they should have better equipment, right.

Hi Chuck, I was curious, when I upload an image, is it permanently stored on the server? The reason I ask is that there is more flexibilty in placing an html img reference in the thread body than using images as attachments.

I found that after I upload an image and viewed it, I can then copy the url of it and paste it in my thread. I wish I could then hide the attachment - is there a way to do that?

To attach a picture, when you are posting/replying, click the "go advanced" option that appears below your reply box. When you scroll down, you'll see a box for "Attach files." Use that option; it's pretty self-explanatory after that.

just a helpfully hint, Microsoft makes a picture re-sizer for windows XP that is fast and simple to use it will do hole files of pictures at one time if you want or just one at a time and you do not even need to open the picture to resize it just right click it and tell it to resize. it is a free program that was meant to be put in the released version of XP but didn't make it it so its an add on. it is free for download from Microsoft.com do a search under power toys and you will find it. almost all the new cameras out now have way too big file sizes even on the lowest resolution, heck my camera i got on sail as a discontinued model 3 years ago and its lowest res. is still too large. the XP re-sizer only works with wind.XP but is great it will even resize down to a hand held PC pic size. and it is the clearest re-sizer i have seen yet. here is one when i took it it was like 700kb now its down to 44 to put on here without any problems. i have dial up as i live out with the cow's and they don't use computers so not enough business to get high speed out here. (stupid cow's) so i suffer from slow loads of pages with big pic sizes and can not upload then aether. some of you may know me from one of the many other welding forums i frequent and i have try-ed to let every one know about this free re-sizer not only to simplify there life but to make it possible for me to enjoy there pic's as well. i stooped going to the Hobart forum for nearly 2 years because they were all the time uploading large picture sized files directly into the post not as attachments so it took me 10 minuets to just get the post to open with the pic in it i could not even read the post until the pic loaded attached pic's are much more user friendly to us pore slobs out in the sticks with only dial up as an option. this board seems to automatically open your pic if you only post 1 in the tread but with the smaller size requirement its still a quick load for us dial ups, and yep we still exist, beep,buup,boop,ding what a drag but its that or nothing where i live.
so i would like to thank the makers of this site for limiting the file size, apologize to you broad bander's for the inconvenience, and offer the free re-sizer from Microsoft to all that would like to use it.

look on the right side for the download its only 521KB's so it will download fast even for us dial up-ers.
here is the same picture resized again down to hand held PC size. at 14.9 kb's it is still pretty good looking, not many re-sizers can pull that off most of the other programs tend to really blur up the picture when resizing. also a good thing to note is i am a long way from being a computer geek, heck I'm lucky if i can get the stupid thing to turn on, yet i can work this re-sizer with no problems and it has run trouble free for 2 or 3 years now. it is the ONLY thing i like about win.XP.
so do your self a favor and try this program, even if you have a re-sizer now you should try it any way you will most likely prefer this one.

one more thing of interest to note about this re-sizer. it dose not effect the original picture, it just puts in a new one sized like you asked with its size next to the file name. it will look like this
before resize file name = TA-185.jpg
after resize file name = TA-185.jpg and TA-185(small).jpg or in this case TA-185(WinCE).jpg

its a great program well worth having.

I just cant get a file to attach,I just cant figure it out.
Ive used photobucket with success,but the pics only stay posted for a couple of weeks and then vanish.
