Most of my work is done in a barn, but when i hit the road to do a job this is my favorite way to travel and haul my tools! pretty ghetto compared to some of you guys. id like to get an enclosed trailer to haul stuff around but this is a bit more comfortable.

Mine might not be as old as Samm's, but we have less rust in New Mexico

El_Lloydeo, isn't it illegal to carry cylinders in a trunk? I could be wrong on this, but for some reason I remember reading that somewhere before...

    Hammack...Isn't that for Nitrous?
But you are right. It is illegal for any type of highly compressed gas cylinder. Something were to happen, your car would turn into a self propelled missle.

    BTW Spaulding,

Cab overs are nice. Those who haven't had one don't realize the convenience they offer and economy of space.

This is my 1990 F450. 7.3 non-turbo diesel, 5 speed. Lincoln SA200, air-compressor, arc-air and air tools, LN25 feeder, oxy/acet torch, hand chain hoist, porto-powers, etc.. The other is my beat up old 91 Dodge cummins 5 speed 4x4 which will get her SA200 and torch as soon as the weather straightens up and I get my new/used flat bed put on!! OH, the little gold Wisconsin powered Hobart in the back of the ford goes in my red dodge 4x4 (in back-ground) for those muddy/ snowy situations. It is mostly used as a generator when the ice storms take our power out.

    Helrzr1,

I'm admiring the lifting setup in the back of your F450. What sorts of stuff do you find yourself using the chain hoist on the I beam trolley to move? Is it just for loading tools into and out of the truck bed, or is it useful for loading stock and customer equipment?

Re: Let's see the welding rigs

    OK!
Mine is still sitting in the back yard waiting for me to start doing something with it!
Its a 1991 F-250, 351ci and 5 speed manual, "Ex farm truck", the previous owner had the suspension re-done so it has the equivalent of a 1 ton suspension, I can load it down to the top of the cab with stacked fire wood, and it just makes it ride better!
I plan on removing the bed and replacing it with a flat deck or a service body "when I can find one" and start from there!

The truck body is all hand built, heavy as hell. It isnt smooth or fancy. Most of the welds are right there for everyone to see.. The truck wieghs in at 13k to 15k depending how much scrap iron is on it for those odd jobs. But the hoist and flip out boom are EXTREMELY handy for loading steel into truck and or positioning steel on the job. Dad and I were working at the gravel quarries and coal mines at the time we put this truck together. We have used the boom for everything from positioning steel, and parts to useing as a tow-truck for my broken down vehicles. ( that really makes the old truck sag) but my favorite use as a youngster was engine pulling. It was and is AWESOME to pull engines out and take to the machine shop. (I was always blowin up stuff as a kid) This old truck got me (and some friends) out of alot of trouble over the years.

The one thing I don't like about cabovers is, if you ever get into an accident, your the first one there!

I love threads like this because it gives people different idea from other rigs to enhance our own stuff. Everyone in this thread has a good looking rig.

Will get one with the back opened up. It is a little heavy as its tread plate as you can see but it slides back to the halfway point and leaves a nice overhang to stay out of the weather or you can flip the back door over and stand up in the back third. From the rear the box on the right is an extension of the bottom cabinet. This is where the oxy/acet is and the hose real. You can't see it in the pics but there is a gen set on the drivers side behind the cab. This set up is heavy but it is a 450. Also a small hoist in the back on the drivers side that swings out.

Re: Let's see the welding rigs

the hoist was easy. I cut down a cherry picker (engine hoist), mounted it to a front hub off Dana 30 I took out from under my Wrangler, recessed that into 6" pipe, cut a hole in the floor 8" out from the wall and 8" from the rear, added gussets under the floor. I will post the pics when I get back home might be next weekend.
