No need, just wait at the dump.

He must have run them very loose and got them tangled up with the tire chains. Had to cut out and replace two of the threaded rods. Used grade 8 bolts since I couldn't get hardened all thread locally.

I wonder what his tires look like?

A dairy farm was owned by a gentleman farmer, it was a real show place. He died in 1985, the place was sold to "flatlanders". They immediately bought a 385, the last of the International Harvester utility tractors. It was never again used as a dairy farm, but the property along with the tractor resold several times over the years. I've always loved the IH utility tractors. This one had loader & bush hog, but was rarely used. It killed me that they had acres under roof, but never put it inside. It sat outdoors 28 years!

By the time I bought it, it had 1100 hours. The cutting edge of the loader bucket was still painted!
The hog was cracked at both sides of the frame, and the tire lugs were torn at center both sides. Evidently, someone didn't know what sway chains are for.

The dark gray stack is 1/8" x 1" PVC angle, which will be bonded to the aluminum angle so the battery cases are isolated from the aluminum. My helper, Jesse, tig welding.

Got the racks back from the anodizer and now have them installed and the batteries loaded in them. Wiring is work in progress. Boat is back in the water.

That's a lot of batteries! What kind of boat is that?

Why did you anodize the racks? For looks?

Very nice work! I wish I could afford you!

Thanks. There are nine more batteries that aren't shown in the photo. The 12 batteries in the two racks are the house bank. The four 4D's are for engine starting. And the group 31 is 1 of 2 for generator starting. Elsewhere there are 4 batteries each for bow and stern thrusters.

The boat was built in Italy by Absolute.

The anodizing is a better alternative to painting and is primarily for esthetics; of course it protects the aluminum.

Good question. I'm guessing the chains protected the rubber somewhat. I fixed one of these last winter for him but apparently he didn't learn. Took longer to fix this time so he got charged more. Maybe that'll help the learning process.

I like reading your posts! Very interesting history, and I can tell you have a wealth of knowledge about a wide variety of things.

Your customer should be ecstatic. He now owns a $100 chair.

I told him to get a new one but he said he had the seat broke in just the way he liked it.

Looks like it isn't 'broke in' anymore

Friction welding cast iron to steel is a futile pursuit. Makes a lot of "grindy" noises, but not much else.

More heat and more pressure next time. I'm confident you could get it figured out.
