Ok thanks. 4043 3/32" filler. Not sure what the parent (?) metal alloy is as it was a piece of scrap from Bobco, but it is 1/4"

    Re: So.Cal. Weld-O-Rama

I'm not seeing much if any penetration on the lower leg of the AC weld. Upper leg shows some penetration. However it looks like the area directly above the Dc weld didn't penetrate as much as it did higher up.

Sort of shows that even if the weld looks well wetted in on the surface, thick material like this just soaks up the heat and prevents good fusion of any depth into the base material. I bet with Terry's Dynasty 700 we wouldn't have these issues...

I am thinkin with better weld prep iirc an acid etch before the dcen root went in pen would have been better material was around 250 degrees f while welding no preheat

    Re: So.Cal. Weld-O-Rama

I am noticing the bottom piece of material seems harder to heat up in aluminum fillet welds. I wonder if the bottom is transmitting heat to the table top thereby requiring more heat to wet out. The vertical piece seems to wet out more rapidly. This would go well with Wes' observation about the preheat making things easier.

What are recommended amp settings on this weld for AC argon? And what correction factor is recommended for using helium instead?

    Re: So.Cal. Weld-O-Rama

Most of my questions seem to be answered in the old threads:
    http://weldingweb.com/archive/index.php/t-22308.html

    http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...-welding/page2

Looks like helium is maybe 10% more efficient at heat transfer. Seems pretty optimistic to try 1"at 115A.
