    Re: colossal tech

Well I fired it up . It will work for about 30 seconds then pop the breaker (dedicated 20 amp circuit) not sure if I have the amps set to high (dont have the manual) I am debating running the 50 amp circuit. If I can get this working just for tig and arc (want to learn that ) I am thinking of buying a good Plasma Cutter . What gives the most bang for the buck ?

Hypertherm Powermax 30 or Thermaldynamics Cutmaster 39 are both very good units for very reasonable prices. I have used the Cutmaster 39 and it was a dream. Dont have experience with the Powermax 30 but hear it is very good and more portable. If I were to buy another plasma unit, it would be one of these. They are more than a chinese unit in price, but you would be getting more for your money.

    Re: colossal tech

I like it, it does what I need, but it does lack a feature I like that other units have. Example would be pilot arc. The one feature I miss most. Other than that, it does a good job for a reasonable price for my requirements.

Giant Tech has been great getting this thing running since I am new at it my cuts are not the greatest I practiced on a piece of 1/8 or 1/4 angle iron and it cut like butter after I ran a 240/30 amp line the pics are my first cut then my second (I cleaned it up before I took it )

I have a colossal tech cat520D. It blew a varistor while I was cutting. It is the blue one with a red resistor beside it near the copper coil on the top board close to the front of the circuit board. Their in your picture. I need the numbers on them. I think it may be 391k on the varistor mine burnt and I could not get the number. I would really appreciate it if you could help.

I have a Colossal Tech Cat 520D. It blew two electronic parts while I was plasma cutting. The parts are that blue varistor and brown-orange capacitor at the base of that very large and long copper coil on the middle board in the picture above (post #4). To those of you who have one of these Colossal Tech machines with a similar layout, can you provide the identification information on those two parts? I'm going to try to repost the above picture with the parts circled.

The Giantech guy hasn't been around here for a loooooong time.

The units are imported from China.

They are basically a Zeny plasma, just like all the other hundred no named units.

In addition to asking here if no part #s can be found
You may want to join the restricted Yahoo group- Chinese_ Tig _Welders

Haven't been over there in a while- but they do have (some) of the chinese welder and plasma cutter schematics and maybe be of some help.

Try phoning this seller/repair center from the Roseburg-OR area.

They may be willing to identify or sell you the parts.
