I might have one of those, or a similar hammer hammer head. For years I combed the flea markets and bought old hammers and heads for next to nothing. Last time I counted, it was in excess of 60. But I'll never compare to Scotty Fulton in Kentucky who has about 14,000 hammers. Yes, 14,000.

Hammers and 2 and 1/2 pound axes are a weakness for me if I see one ant a yard sale or in the metal pile at the dump i will almost always grab it.

Same here. Though, I've learned to limit myself to hammers that have nice lines, something I don't already have. There used to be quite a bit of variation in hammer design, but post-1950 everything started getting streamlined.

Still looking for a 3lb ball-peen. I've heard of them getting up to 4lb, but I've never actually seen one. I'd definitely like to add either to the collection.

I'm surprised more people haven't thought of that.

Not being a hydraulics guy, I wonder if all that little jarring from the impacts is good for the seals and whatnot. I would think the cylinder could handle it since they are used on big diggers, but that's the first thought that came to mind. Heck, even if it breaks in a year or two, rebuilding a cylinder isn't that much of an issue.

I think the DP120 is a lot simpler as a power-hammer-only design, but fitting in that hydraulic press option certainly gets my brain cogitating!! If only I could find a way to make the clutch without using a nasty tire!

I wouldn't worry about the hydraulics.... they get beat on worse than that every day on ag and industrial equipment. Well... not when I'm driving of course....

I just purchased a new American Made 24oz. Vaughan hammer last night at Lowe’s 50% off. Found it on a clearance rack. Looked like a decent deal to me and I'm a sucker for a good deal. Never purchased one of these new. I always get them at the flee market or garage sales all used and abused for a couple bucks. Got this new for just a couple bucks more. I think I did pretty good.

OK I don't know what I'd do with out such good suggestions and per your advice I rushed right out and did just that. LOL... Oh any way this is another one I had that I picked up in the past that has a loose head on the handle side by side with the new Vaughan Hammer
