Most table top designs from woodworkers take this movement into consideration and try to allow the wood to move and still stay flat. That being said I've seen some odd woodwork that has held up over the years. Just don't be too surprised if the top bows up on you if the sides are constrained.
I think steel lends itself beautifully to the trestle design. Love it.

The table is going great. I really like the rivet detail, how are they attached ,cut short and plug welded from the back side ? At first look I thought that worn out flap disc was a cast roset for the center pipe .

I have a friend that makes these rivets in all different sizes. he does bridge construction. he has "real ones" but these are just rivet heads. I drilled a hole on the back side of the corners I made then like you said I plug welded them. the rivets going down the side are not real rivets there actually button head Allen bolts that kind of have the look of rivets and they are screwed into the wood going around the whole thing.

Impressive build! I like your work on the support. Great to see metal projects incorporated with wood.

first photo is the bottom of the table right after the second coat of poly was put on.
the second photo is the poly finish after drying.
and the third photo is the top of the table right after the wood conditioner was applied to help reduce the chances of a blotchy finish.
and the last photo is how I did the feet of the table.

    thanks for the link.

I really think this table is worth what some of the tables are listed at. but I also don't want to sit on it forever!

I think this is a pretty high quality table and is 100% unique and with the right person I do feel that it could sell for a pretty penny!

If it does sell I already have plans to build another one with a different base.

Yeah I wouldn't be able to figure out where to market a table for that price.

    Re: Dining room table build!

i have a few furniture stores that are very interested in it but want to see when its done!

one of them wants a 50/50 share of what it sells for. to me that's a bit harsh : )

i also have talked to a home building company that builds super nice lake houses here and they are interested in letting me set the table up in one of there model homes to help advertise it.

There you go Casey. That would be the way to go, people that buy lake houses have the money and desire to buy something made one of a kind and by a LOCAL builder.

I wish somebody would start a thread on how to market stuff like this. It would be super useful.
