    idealarc 250 polarity switch

Idealarc 250 code 7279. The switch has two fiber parts that the contacts ride on those parts are broken. The local welding store say's I can't buy parts have to buy entire switch.I hate to spend almost $300. if I could just buy those parts. Any help would be appreciated.

Might be able to find a used switch somewhere probably about half price. Check with Stumpfs - 618-566-4733 www.stumpfweldingsupplies.com

If you can't buy the parts, why not try to make them? The fiber is just to isolate the the current, correct? Why not use a cutting board (plastic) like you buy at wally world and cut it to fit? Just a thought, maybe I'm way off base.

If you are like most, probably only use it DC+ , just hard-wire it, tape the extra wires off.

The fiber is most likely Micarta, looks like a laminated fiberglass, available in different thicknesses. Can be cut and drilled easily to fit. It's been years since I've bought any (pre-internet), I'm thinking electric-motor rebuild shops, especially ones that do large DC motors. Assuming I got the spelling right above, could always do a google search ...

I will try Stumpfs. I'm told that if it doesn't have perfect contact that the switch can get hot from arcing and may melt plastic. Sounds like it is micarta I will see if I can get some. THANKS GUYS

    Re: idealarc 250 polarity switch

the code 7279 is an AC only welder and does not have a polarity switch.
at code 7100 they changed the switch. the $300 switch is a kit for the older machine that includes new conductor straps ( like wires) after code 7100 the switch is only $189
Go look at your code number again. Are you looking for the line power switch or AC/DC polarity switch.

    Re: idealarc 250 polarity switch

My machine is labeled code7279 it is ac dc, all I know is what it says on the machine. I was told by Nordan Smith a new switch is $300 but later was told a kit was about $180. The Lincoln website had a drawing of the switch for code 7279 doesn't look like mine but is ac dc I think mine was updated. If I can figure out how to put a picture on here I will, thaks for your input . Micarta done the trick thanks JSFAB
